The Charlotte airshow in 1979 had glorious weather. The star of the show was a VA ANG F-105D. Oh, and the Thunderbirds, too, I think.

The KTOL air show had really terrible weather the time I went, low ceilings, low vis. But the Thunderbird's still preformed, which made up for the terrible weather.

And, and, S29000 landed there to pick up the President.

Those two things made the trip worth it.

I went to an air show here in Sydney's at a now defunkt airfield and the weather was just horrible, low cloud cover and a heck of a lot of rain, and I still wonder what possesed me to go. The air displays were just about all canceled but the highlight was to be an American Airforce B52 that flew in from Guam. The ATC was live to air and the US pilot was questioning the cloud level and kept saying "decending " "decending" followed by "Holy Shit............. Climb Climb Climb!" We had a very close inspection of the rivets! I went to hospital suffering exposure. It was a great day out though!
I remember when the DC-3 was new!

Still on my to-do list ! Sometime in the future I surely will make that that trip around the globe, but first I will go to CAF's Airsho at MAF end of September this year.

Show at WPAFB in Dayton, OH in 2003 got discontinued after heavy thunderstorms.
Air Power at Zeltweg, Austria in 2003 got halted for 1+ hour due to thunderstorms and about 100.000 spectators seeking protection from the elements.

Some of the best weather combined with relaxing mood I experienced in Payerne, Switzerland in 2004 with people bringing full meals & wine to enjoy on their blankets.

What airshow are you going to? Enniskillen Ulster airshow or the airshow in Galway? Theres another airshow today at Newtownards (NI) which is estantially has the same aircraft as Enniskillen Airshow. But with no Red Arrows today, and with the weather promising to be not so great, I have decided not to go.

MacDill AFB in Tampa...the weather is usually great..meaning cloudless skies..and broiling sun,,with little shade on the flightline. A couple of years ago, manning the company booth, a woman approached who looked like a cooked lobster.
I told her she needed some sunscreen..and offered her some from my large tube. She said thanks..took the tube..and walked away! The planes..the Thunderbirds and Blue Angels..and the other displays make up for very hot conditions..huge crowds..and impossible traffic...TPAnx
I read the news today..oh boy

Best and worst weather at an airshow I've ever attended are exactly the same. 40C and not a cloud in the sky. Always that way for the Comox Airshow!

The best weather I've had at an airshow was yesterday right here in AXN. 90 degrees (F) and sunny. The rest of the airshows I've been to have had the same weather.

This years Wings Over Pittsburgh. On Saturday it was about 80 and beautiful out. Sunday was much hotter with partly cloudy skies. Last year on Sunday we had low ceilings so the Blue Angels had to do a low altitude show. All the years I have attended, the weather has been clear and with temps mid 80s to lower 90s.

The PAE airshow in 1993 was pretty rad, that's one of the few I've been to. The worst ones are the ones that happen without me knowing (see: last weekend's OLM airshow) due to unbelievably poor advertising. It took B-17s and B-24s buzzing my house for me to know anything was going on!

Worst airshow weather was Wings Over Houston in 2004 I think the year was.....maybe 400' overcast and 3 miles with light rain, fog and no wind to move it out.......just horrible, needless to say nothing flew except the Piper Cub doing some silly maneuvers over the runway at maybe 100'.

Australian International Airshow at Avvalon used to be held in mid feb. was usually around 40 degrees c each day. i think it was 1995, we had big dust storms, markers flying down the runway. Most people go home sunburnt red. It's held a month later now, but again this year a similar story

I was tempted to go to Salthill just to see the Thunderbirds! How come they were disappointing? I heard a door fell off a helicopter hitting 3 people after the airshow. Did you happen to see it?

I ended up going to Enniskillen Airshow which turned out to be a great day. The rain stayed away and we actually got some sun Big grin And the Red Arrows put in a decent display with only 8 aircraft instead of the usual 9, although only having 8 aircraft makes all the photos look crap as all formations they made were not symmetrical.

Highlight of the show was the Bell Huey. I had never heard the sound of one until this weekend. Also I got to look around in side a PBY Catalina which was also a highlight for me. Unfortunately no Eurofighter at Enniskillen. A welsh based 2 seater Spitfire was there despite not appearing on the list so that was a nice bonus!

Yes Legoguy I watched the whole thing unfold, the Merlin took off from Salthill park,as a crew member waved to the crowd, something began to fall, because of the wind the door didnt fall directly down so it sort of glided, after a few seconds the reality hit and somebody shouted"thats a door!!"The crowd began to run in different directions, luckiy it missed the promenade where thousands of people stood and came down over the beach just knocking 3 people over, they were fine.Helicopter carried on,pilot musnt have known what happened but within seconds he turned back towards the beach and assesed the situation. There are various rumours flying about now, some people think an anti war protester could have tampered with it while it was in the field on display, some think it was a child just grabbing things not knowing what they were doing, regardless the crew have alot to answer for because they obviously didnt look around the aircraft before taking off.
Apart from that,we had terrible weather,The 2 F-15s pulled out due to technical difficulty,Thunderbirds gave a flat performance, but still got to see the Typhoon and The Blades who wer fantastic, overall I enjoyed it

Aircraft used to be cordoned off at airshows but now they seem happy enough to let people get up close and touch the aircraft. I wonder if this incident will bring back the cordoning.

It seems likely that an anti war guy would do it,I mean they have been protesting at the show every year without effect, then the one year they decide not to make an appearance a door falls off a brand new helicopter, anyway the guards and the IAA are investigating so we'll see.But as far as the topic goes, that was the worst weather i've ever experienced at an airshow
