Air Canada Soon To Be One Of World's Best?

Sat Jun 23, 2007 3:05 am

With all the aircraft purchases and fleet modernization projects, I'm wondering if Air Canada can be one of the top 5 best airlines in the world in terms of overall quality of service. What do you guys think? I'm particularly interested in what non-canadians think of Air Canada and where they see its heading. I personally think it will become one of the best, in particular when they receive the 788's. The summer olympics in Beijing and London will help AC out tremendously.

I think that the money, the innovations, and the developments are all happening in the middle east and Asia (and I hope that QF surprises us with their Marc Newson A380 Interior products!!!) . Although AC is having fleet modernization, so are heaps of other airlines, Yes AC is updating their product, but its nothing that anyone else hasn't thought up. I would say that AC will stay a solid airline and they will most likely become better, but they dont seem to like to take risks with their products, therefore I don't see them becoming a top airline in the modern industry.

I did a couple trans-con flights with AC about 2 months ago in J. I have to say I saw a noticeable decline in quality from just 6 months ago. I like that they are bringing in some modernization but they are also raising prices across the board without any benefit for the typical flight at the moment. The air crews for the most part are pretty efficient but there needs to be a much stronger emphases on customer service.

Having newer planes gives you just that: newer planes.

Being one of the best airlines in the world takes much, much more than having modern planes.
Smile - it confuses people!

Haha! No!

Air Canada definitely has the CAPABILITY on becoming one of the worlds top airlines for service, but they aren't one for taking the many small risks involved in getting there. That would be a very difficult goal that I am not sure they are up to achieve.

Not any time soon, according to the experiences I had on 3 out of 4 of the last flights I took. Then again, I haven't travelled a lot lately on many other carriers. I'm flying YVR-YUL-YVR with them next week, so I will be interested to see if anything has changed. The two transatlantic flights with them last year were certainly nothing to brag about, as a matter of fact I had seen their level of service drop considerably from the previous year. I read a recent trip report about BA on the YYZ-LHR route, and that guy seemed to be having a lot better time on his flight than I did on AC. I have always been a fan of AC, even when others criticized them, but sad to say the time has come that they are getting bad. They are doing well now, but this is not the time to pull back on the service. New equipment does not mean good service by any stretch of the imagination. If they really improve their service with the introduction of the new equipment, they really will have something. YYZ is a particular bad station. The lack of communication amongst the departments: customer service, operations and flight crew is nothing short of appalling. There have been a number of times that flights I was booked on became victim to poor communication and lack of customer service. Their BOB is disgusting, and I always make sure I depart on a full stomach. The catering across the Atlantic was nothing to write home about either. I also take a very dim view of not being offered a beverage service before my meal, and find a cocktail particularly unwelcome if it is not presented before the meal. Shame on you Air Canada for not providing such a basic part of the service on a flight of over 6 hours! If it is a matter of cost, I certainly do not mind paying 10 bucks for a couple of cocktails. Smarten up and quit being so tacky.
Cheers,

AC needs to break the CAW representation of the Customer Service/Gate agents. AC's agents are some of the worst in the world. Of course there's plenty of good ones, but customers will always remember the bads ones most.

The F/A's are improving as more and more younger ones are being hired and more of the crabby old battle axes are retiring.

AC as a company has a lot of good ideas and a good vision for the future, I just hope the lazy, socialist unionized customer service staff change their attitude.

I work ramp for AC, I'd be crucified for saying this if anybody at work found out. But I don't really care because I'm leaving AC soon anyway. Ramp is unionized too, but our union is nowhere near as militant as the others. I'm still not a fan of it though.
