Domestic First Class...who Has The Best Service?

Wed Jul 18, 2007 9:57 am

Just wanting to get some opinions here. Recently been flying a lot and finally getting some perks for doing so. Being out of Dallas it's mainly AA but recently upgraded on a US Airways flight to LAS. Talk about NO service. So with out going to every airline from DFW to look around, any suggestions....cheers or jeers?

CO has world-renowned service in First/BusinessFirst and very comfortable seats IMO. They are far superior in domestic premium product.

if Im flying First class in the USA I try and fly AS first, then CO if AS isn't available.

Both have great service, comfortable seats, and AS has the most amazing F/A's.

I am currently booking three upcoming AS F flights!

I've flown domestic UA First Class many times can't complain. The service is good, the food is good the only thing I will moan about is the seat pitch. If the person in front of you puts there seat back it does feel very claustrophobic.

Happy flying

Even though the airline is tiny, Sun Country also has a good service in First class (from DFW they serve MSP, CUN, and PVR). The advantages are that the cabin is smaller for more attentive service, and the service is relatively affordable (maybe double or triple the cost of Y compared with most carriers where F is probably 4x or more the cost of Y) with the drawback being that they have no mileage program.

Otherwise, I would recommend CO or AS. AA isn't bad either, especially out of DFW due to the hub.

See if you can find a United 747-400 domestic route. They run about 3 to 4 a week, usually between LAX, ORD, SFO, DEN and IAD. By far the best!  yes
Not only is the service impeccable, flying in the nose of a 747 is a unique experience that no other aircraft can offer.
Last year I flew United first class Los Angeles to Chicago.
Full 180 degree sleeper seats, champagne, Atlantic salmon, garlic mashed potatoes and plenty of rounds of booze. Very friendly service. Too much to list.

I've heard good things about CO's first class service, and I've heard UA isn't too bad; they serve meals on many routes and have a decent food service overall. Haven't flown UA first though, and haven't been in CO first for a few years though, so I'm a little out of it there.

AA's was nothing special when I flew it last year STL-DFW. A few rounds of drinks, free headphones (we were on a 757) and a couple of bags of peanuts or pretzels (I forget which; there was no choice).

DL is decent. Choice of items from the snack basket (depending on the F/A, it can be done pretty liberally, or only a couple of times a flight); they're pretty good about keeping drinks going. Powerports are being added to the planes with PTVs in First, which is real nice (especially since they're AC outlets). On longer flights, you do only get one meal choice though, and all drinks are in plastic cups (both are downers for me).

My opinion of US first is the same as the first posters - nothing special. A couple of drinks, a pass of the snack basket. On many flights, I only had a bottle of water at my seat; no F/A did pre-departure beverages.

I also heard that CO is above par in domestic first class. But, (and I know I will get flamed for this) I really like NW first class. I have flown it many times and have never had any problems. The service has been good, the food is good, and have only ran into a rude gate agent once that I can remember. I would say US has to be the worst.

Between the legacies...UA will get my vote as I have flown First on all except CO. UA has super comfortable seats, good reecline (I usually choose the most aft seat in First that are supposed to have 'limited' recline, and they still recline very good), food is surprisingly good (and is served on a very good percentage of flights), F/A's always make sure you are happy, and now you even get to board over a Red Carpet. Everything seems to be in place.
