United And The 777-300

Sat Jul 21, 2007 10:21 am

Is there any partucular reason(s) why United chose not to use the 777-300? Did they even consider it? Is just as simple as they don't have the need for it?

Thanks!

Of course they considered it, but I'm sure they decided they didn't need the extra capacity. The original 777-300 does not have the range of the -ER; they may have played a part in the decision. The -ER wasn't around when UA was acquiring the bulk of their 777's.

Well they already have 744's...
I know the 744 and 773 co-exist in the fleets of some airlines such as AF and SQ, but in the case of UA, the 773 would probably be rather irrelevant.

Right. The 773 might come into play as a 744 replacement though.

I think the 744 will be replaced with the 748, UA needs the capacity on their asian routes, the 777-300 could play some role if they want some expansion but i definately see the 748 in UA's future to keep the needed capacity.
