Flying United's TED - What To Expect?

I'm in the process of booking my flights around the US for my November visit and found some nice, low fares for UA's Ted. What are they like... let me rephrase what is the difference between UA domestic and TED? I've read about channel 9 in one of the trip reports but not much more.
Most of all I'm interested to find out whether they have baggage interline agreements with NW? I will be flying with Ted LAS-SFO and then connect to NW's flight to HNL (I will have two separate tickets). The layover at SFO is exactly 5 hours.
Will I be able to check-in my bags all the way to HNL???

I had no problems on Ted, similar service to UA domestic with Ted-themed safety videos, napkins, etc. Granted, I was asleep for most of both flights, but the fact that I was able to sleep comfortably says something (and in a middle seat for one of the legs no less). There is no difference in terms of IFE - you will have the audio and video selection that you would normally have (though you may not have any video on LAS-SFO, since it's too short).

Not sure about interlining.

It really all depends on the agent who is checking you in at LAS. You have 5 hours, so idk if the agent in LAS will allow that.

My advice to you is to bring a printed itinerary from your northwest portion and see if they could to a manual tag all the way through. It is possible, i don't know what their policy is in LAS.

Flying from LAS to SFO you may see some short videos, but probably nothing of consequence. You will most likely have channel 9 as well as maybe a quick drink service. There really is no difference between Ted and mainline UA except for an extra flight attendant and Ted embroidered napkins and such.

UA has an interline agreement with NW. However, you're at the mercy of rampers who may or may notl make the extra effort to deliver a bag to another airline. If you have five hours at SFO, you might want to play it safe and check your bag to SFO on UA, claim it there and then take you and it over to NW to check in there.
Airliners.net has many forums. It has spell check and search functions. Use them before posting!

Are they really stupid at United???
I was going to book ticket via flyted.com and when I got to the credit card details the only possible country for billing address was the US. Same with united.com.  Angry
Even tried one of their "worldwide" sites. German site has Germany as the ONLY possible billing address country, British site the UK and so on...

Well, the problem is that my country does NOT have its own united.cz website and those "geniuses" at UA probably did not notice there are about another 192 - 23 countries they apparently don't want business from.

Fair enough. But to their credit, they at least have it in every country they fly to.

To meet the diverse needs of our customers, United Airlines operates websites in most of the countries to which we fly.

Besides, none of the other airlines in the US have .cz for a page.

Have you considered booking on a star alliance that actually flies into the Czech Republic?

But go to the airport and there will be no problem.

That's wonderful, but don't tell me I'm the first one ever from 170 foreign countries not served by UA flights who wants to book a flight from A to B in the US. Never heard of this "tourism" thing at UA???

I understand. You can still book a flight from a different country.

United does have a terrible web site and no airline can afford to say take your business elsewhere that is funny!

TED IS UA. you can check your bags through, they are UA flight numbers.

And what's the point of being a member of "global" alliance if people even from Star Alliance countries (Poland, Portugal, Austria, New Zealand, whole Scandinavia, South Africa) cannot book on UA ?
Painting a logojet and enabling truly global travel are two completely different things.

You're not lazy, UA is for not having a way to pay other than US Credit Card for TED.

This attitude you received is Typical for UA and one reason why several of my coworkers who flew from SFO to DEN every week switched to F9 (I also never fly them), so much for 150K in revenue, F9 and US are getting the business instead.

Hi, I have faced this situation many times in an earlier life, and it requires a bit of clever phone calling to make it work.

1) If you are overseas, out of the US, and need to contact a US carrier, which advertises fares over the web, they may have a toll-free number for customer assistance. If they advertise a fare, they have to give equal opportunity to passengers who will come in over the phone, web, in-person etc, and not discriminate - regardless of where you are coming from.

2) Since you typically do not have a handy nearby United / TED part of United office in your city, where you are currently, the trick is to call into the us toll-free number, and then talk to a customer service agent, who in reality may be in a third country that you don't know due to the magic of telecommunications.

3) Be prepared to give a US address, if asked, and if you are a tourist with no US based friends, or any one you know who would be able to be given as a reference, use your hotel street address and room number, just in case they need to send something (paper ticket, etc.) For normal situations, by credit card, you don't have to do that.... unless are using a foreign credit card and they need to verify something.

4) Use the NET2PHONE or SKYPE or other VOIP systems which give free phone calls through your PC, and make the toll free calls, (1-800, or 1-8xx-xxx-xxxx) to call into the number, and go through the menus to reach your desired department and say you are having problems in accessing their online website. You may want to be logged in during that time, just in case they ask you to try, but say you are having browser difficulties... or PC problems in short.

5) When asked to purchase, give your full name/number/code/address, OVER THE TELEPHONE, not on the website. The website rarely handles international addressses.

6) Again, with reference to (3) above, say you will pick up the tickets at the local city desk/office of UA if in the US yourself, or if it is an e-ticket, send the confirmation to your registered e-mail address (not a free hotmail.com type of address...) -- essentially the more information you give to them, the more reliable your chances of getting the tickets you desire faster... the agents are merely reading of a script, and do NOT have the latitude to make operational decisions.

6.1) It does help incredibly to have a SITA remark or other global reservation system in your PNR to say that you will be arriving (at the airport you are flying FROM) through XXXXX carrier, by XXXX date, or by land/surface, or by train transportation, or by other method so that you show you have fulfilled the requirement of continuation with regard to your flight rules -- such as:

Sector 1 A to B by AIR
Sector 2 B to C by SURFACE
Sector 3 C to D by SEA
Sector 4 D to A by AIR

Some of the tickets you purchase overseas will require you to do this! (hint: the old Visit USA airpass program)

7) Remember, you can use this trick to call anytime, so if you can't figure it out on the first try, disconnect, and then research, and then call again. - you may have to wait as much as 30 minutes to 2 hours, but it is after all a toll free call, (through the US telco system) so you don't have anything to worry about apart from your internet bill at your home.

8) Remember to call during US normal business hours (daytime!) for best results.

You know, I hardly ever get any attitude worse than excellent from any UA representative. But, on the other hand, F9 is a good, cheap alternative (usually). US though, im sorry they are spending their money there.
