QF $554 Tiger $340 Which One Do You Choose?

Mon Jul 30, 2007 9:18 pm

Doing a bit of mucking around on their respective websites I see Qantas are $554 return MEL-PER late NOV to late DEC Tiger are $340. Taking into consideration you have a number of departure times on Qantas to choose from and the meal factor etc. but Tiger win hands down on straight out price, can we take an extremely scientific A-net poll and see who would win? Come on just for fun.
G'day

Qantas for me for anything longer than 1.5 hours (the lack of leg room would be torture for me!)

Maybe TR one way and QF the other? As Door5Right said, if its a 747 its hard to say no to QF!

For domestic I may take QF over TR, but international you couldn't pay me to go QF. Now if you had've said QF over DJ... it'd be DJ all the way!

Tiger would get my money on this. The $214 extra for QF is heaps.

Go cheaper...I mean, really, is there enough of a difference to warrant spending $214 more? You go from the same place to the same place in the same amount of time, which isn't that long...use the money elsewhere, or, GASP, save it!

Same boat. I'd go the cheaper fare and stay in a nicer hotel or something, or buy more alcohol. In reality, your paying $214 more for a larger plane (takes longer to board, and disembark, to be served food) and some food. Your better off flying Tiger.

However, as mentioned before, the novelty on flying on a 747 cannot be replaced. If it was $100 more, I would definetely spend it on QF, but $214, yeah no.

My two cents.

Depends on the person...I avoid 747's whenever possible, I hate them...like you said, longer to get on, longer to get off, longer to get food, longer to get it cleaned up. I hate flying the 747.

Well it's not everyday you get to fly on a B747 domestically. And to me it's such a marvellous aircraft that changed the airline industry. Also when you are on the same B738 everytime you fly domestically, it doesn't hurt to fly on a B747 to keep flying interesting.

$210 is tough to spend extra just to fly on an 747. I say go with Tiger and save that cash and put it to something else like flying a 747 to the United States! Haha okay no but really id save that money. There are plenty of other 747s in the world and I am sure QF is not going to take theirs off the domestic route in a few years.

I dont trust Tiger yet, so it's QF. You forget to compare Jetstar a,d VirginBLue
Where's the passion gone out of the airline industry? The smell of jetfuel and the romance of taking a flight....

Well I'd go with Tiger simply because of cost but I would buy myself an exit row seat. Reason being seat pitch is 29"

The fact is they still go from the same city to the same city. $214 is a heck of a lot for that if you ask me...I mean, he mentioned two things, meals and frequencies. Sure, frequencies would be nice, but is it $214 nice? And sure, a meal may be nice (or it could suck), but you could buy probably a nicer, bigger meal in the airport for less than $214. It's all perspective as to what's more important...but I know you wouldnt catch me paying $214 more to fly from LA to Philly on US Airways or United or anyone else when I could do it on another airline for cheaper.

wow, that's some good bullshit right there, try being squashed in a Qantas 767 from coast to coast for 5+ hours and you'll understand the meaning of squashed.

when they're running on-time, lately that hasn't been the case!

is the plate of beef, can of beer & cup of coffee & movie worth the extra $214? You could buy all of those on Tiger for less than $30, I'd take Tiger & I will be taking them to Singapore in January, saved myself a whopping $450.
