Advice On Best Option For MAN/HKG

Tue Jul 31, 2007 3:48 am

I'm planning a trip to Hong Kong in November. I quite fancied the idea of trying Air New Zealand but have decided against that hell hole known as Heathrow. So, my options are a transfer through Europe with KL, AF or LX (LH isn't an option as its fares are about 50% higher than others) or through the Middle/Far East with EK, QR or SQ. Any advice on the best option, taking into account quality of service and ease of transfer?

EK via DXB unless EY started HKG service in which case them. QR are good too but their A346 only goes via LHR and that is a real show stopper.

SQ MAN-SIN-HKG would likely be cheapest I would think.
What do you mean you dont have any bourbon? Do you know how far it is to Houston? What kind of airline is this???

Don't rule out AF via CDG - OK it's hell transferring in Paris if you're in a rush, but the 777-200ERs they use to HKG are very comfortable with an excellent pitch, even in Economy and the service is great. Only thing is that the IFE really sucks. I did this last year for a long weekend, £382 for BHX-CBG-HKG and return, booked only a month or so in advance.

Have you considered the option of flying to LGW and taking Oasis from there?

I would also recommend Singapore, they are frequently listed as the best airline in the world, and even if that's subjective, it's happened multiple times so they certainly do a good job! Emirates is a good alternative to Singapore if the fare is too much or something like that.

Yes, I did consider them. But the return fare was only about £100 less than other airlines - the cost of getting to LGW from MAN brings the total fare pretty close to the others so I think I'd rather avoid a transfer through London.

I would suggest QR or SQ. Both of them are top-notch! IF, and only IF you have to go through LHR, try BD connection with NZ. NZ's 744 are retrofitted with 34 inch legroom.
