Transit In Fiumicino Airport Rome

Mon Aug 27, 2007 11:30 am

Dear All,

I need your help. I have a rather thight connection with Air Berlin in FCO. Although I will have already my boarding card due to web check-in, I was wondering how transit in FCO is working.

When I arrive at FCO, does Air Berlin usually have air bridges? I will arrive from a Schengen country and continue to a Schengen country, so no passport control is necessary. In some Airports one arrives in the departure area (Frankfurt, Stuttgart, Munich) and can just go to the connecting gate, without having to leave the airside or going again through security. Is it the same in FCO, or how does it works there? And assuming a bus will bring us from the plane to the airport, is there the possibility to take a "transit corridor" which brings me back to the gate area or will I arrive in the arrivals area and will I need to pass landside and get through security screening again?

Hope you guys understand what I mean, my English is not the best and it's rather hard to explain.

Thanks a lot for your help.

I have seen the section of the airport you are refering to. Most of the time the Air Berlin flights I've seen get airbridges, but that isn't ever a sure thing.e Give yourself at least an hour, if you can, because the Italian airports aren't exactly quick when it comes to transfers.
Can I have a mojito on this flight?

I dont think there is guarantee of an Aerobridge.

I flew in on Alitalia from BCN connecting to NCE, The flight was 1/2 hour late and the connection was 40 minutes. GO figure.

Alitalia sent an agent to meet the bus (yeah, no aerobridge!!) arrival and we RAN with her, jumped the security line to the front as we had to be screened again for some reason... and then got to the gate as it was closing.... then onto anotehr bus (that had JUST us on it) to be LAST onto the plane. But the staff were aware of where we were al the time. The Alitalia staff were GREAT.

Im hoping if youre running late, Air Berlin will be aware and potentially have an agent come meet you to run you through the aiprort too!

Thanks for the answers so far.

That already gives me an idea how it works. I still am not sure if there is a transfer corridor or if people arriving on a plane with airbridge are "offloaded" in the gate departure area... This would make things much easier and faster.

Yup, I know what you mean - piece of mind.

But the thing is gates are subject to change and it could switch from a usual gate that deposits people in the main gate area.... to an outpost with a bus that deposits you at another point and you have to clear security again like I did.... and run through the whole airport!!!
