Connecting At EWR

Thu Aug 30, 2007 1:17 pm

I have a ticket that goes IAH-EWR (CO)- LHR (VS), on a Friday and have 2 hours to connect,
in the evening, 7 to 9 pm, but note that
the CO flight has only a 35% on time rating with an average delay of about an hour. Will
I have trouble making this connection? Will I be able to travel with one small bag for luggage
without checking it, or will these two carriers (CO, VS) require that I check small baggage?
Thank you.

I'm sure you will have plenty of time and I would guess you can check your bag all the way through from IAH if you want.

Does connecting from CO to VS at EWR require leaving the secure side of C, taking the AirTrain to B, and reclearing security? I can never seem to find a way to go from secure C to secure B.

My last connection through EWR on a MXP-EWR-IAH we had 1+40 connect in EWR.....flight delayed for weather at EWR before we left MXP, 1 hr delay, okay so we have now a tighter connection but might be okay. Then about 40 minutes from EWR we get holding for 20 minutes or so....and then to make it even more interesting we are going into Terminal B, connection to IAH is in Terminal C. We got off the plane, through the entire immigrations/customs in Terminal B, on the train to Terminal C, through security and wound up at our gate to IAH at the time they were closing the door, it can be done but you have to be lucky if you have only 20 minutes, we were very lucky.

I'd say 2 hours you will be fine to connect even with the 35% issue working against you.

If your bag fits in the overhead, you should be fine. Are you booked on one itinerary? If so, you should be able to check it through.

there isn't a secure way to get from C to B, you have to take the airtrain (or walk). you should be ok, even with a bit of a delay. do your flight crew a favor though and dont bug them with questions about your connecting flight, they don't have time for it, nor do they have answers. if it looks tight, i would suggest having a Virgin employee escorting you through security, i would think they would be helpful like that.

Quoting IAHFLYR (Reply 3):
and wound up at our gate to IAH at the time they were closing the door,

Forgot to mention in my haste earlier, CO had booked us on the next flight as they didn't think we'd make it to the gate in time for our original flight, so as the door was closing we were passing by to the P Club to wait for the next flight. Yet another KUDO for CO!  Smile

CO can interline check the baggage through to VS, so you just need to hop the airtrain to B and go through security again. Should be just fine!
