Have You Ever Flown With A Celebrity?

Sun Sep 02, 2007 6:39 am

HI,

like the topic says, have you ever flown with a celebrity or prominent politician?
This summer I sat 1A in a LH flight and on 1H was Katarina Witt a famous German figure skater. So not very special but what are your experiences?

(last topic I found is from 2003)

I flew on the same plane as the band members of the Norwegian pop group A-Ha from Oslo to Manchester about 13 years ago. My brother was even bold enough to ask Morten Harket for an autograph. . .and he got it  Smile.

I'm pretty sure I recall there being a celebrity thread since 2003, but no worries.

I was on the upperdeck on QF going to NZ a year and a half ago when Nicole Scherzinger, lead singer of the pussycat dolls, who has also sang and co-wrote with P diddy. She is very beautiful but was with her possy so I didn't want to bother her.
On the same flight (QF26 LAX-AKL) there was a ladt who use to be a top model... her name slips my mind but my dad who exactly who she was haha.

Then on a AS flight out of LA I was sitting in 3C and in 2D there was a TV host, I forget his name but found this picture of him:

he is the one wearing the blue in the bottom corner

ATL-RIC
Delta Air Lines.
Year: About 2000
Departure time: Around 10:30
Aircraft: 732
Seat 1D
I sat in front of Jimmy Dean on this flight. Apparently he commented on how tired I was and how I passed out for the whole flight. Also, I think he is somewhat demanding.

Flew NW34 (SEA-AMS) two years ago and former Seattle Supersonics star/fan favorite and current assistant coach Detlef Schrempf was onboard. I chatted with him briefly during boarding...really friendly guy! Of course, once on the plane, he took a left turn at the aisle and I a right!  Wink

While flying for HA I had Matthew Fox (star of LOST) on a HNL-KOA flight in First Class with his wife....Margherita.

They drank Spicy Tomato juice, and were pretty quiet the whole flight.

On a flight from HAJ to MUC, Günther Beckstein sat in the row in front of me... not much of a celebrity, but at least a somewhat influential politician here in Germany...

And then, there's the real low-point in my flights: a flight from HRE to FRA on UM with the  crazy  Evil that has ruined Zimbabwe: Robert Mugabe...  vomit

I've always dreamed of one day meeting up with a celebrity on a flight one day...

However, when I met Steve Wozniak, he told me about how he uses his business card to cut his food on his flights. (with his awsome metal business card).

And it was just before Nelson Mandela was released. ANC and swedish gvmt had close contact
during apartheid years. They are heroes to me, call it celebreties or not.

Ps. It was one white guy and MANY black guys. Ds.

I once was on the same plane with Harry the assistant of Derrick. I think he is called Fritz Wepper in real life.
I saw him at the gate and we had a long conversation. We then later flew from FRA-BSL.
This was about 13 years ago.

I've sat next to 80's pop mega band Boney M on a BA PRG-LHR. They were Ok and I got drunk with them. I've also flown with club owner Peter Stringfellow. Nice guy.

I won't mention the thousands of famous faces I dealt with on Check-in back in the late 80's. Too many to mention.
and with that..cabin crew, seats for landing please.

Quite a few. Stars do not impress me. What impresses me is politeness, being considerate and treating me as I have been treating them (which is something one star never got through her thick skull, I digress).

When stars make a fuss about me, the favor will be returned.

-Mohammed El-Baradhei (Head of UN Atomic Energy Agency) SVO-VIE (he flew J, I flew Y)
-the Mr Habsburg (second in line to Austria's throne if there was such a thing) also SVO-VIE (as above)

-Malta's Finance Minister (sat accross aisle from me) FRA-Malta (both in J)
-Moertel & Mausi Lugner (Austrian A-Netters would know of them) VIE-FRA (both in J)

THe latter two did not make any fuss and were dignified and proper.

-Most of the Jamaican olympic team traveling to Syd just before the games on Australian domestic flight (can't remember from where). Party on board!

-an ex-girlfriend of mine flew VIE-SYD seated next to a mid-ranked Russian tennis player traveling to Oz for Syd Women's International tournament. She (not the girlfriend) also competed in the Australian Open.

-and the highlight: Many years ago, Niki Lauda himself piloting a 767 VIE-BKK!

Sat next to actress Joan Cusak on a flight from DCA to ORD. Said hello to her when she sat down next to me in first class....didn't know who she was. I had the window, she the aisle. During the flight the FAs came up to her and one asked for an autograph. I didn't know who she was until I was deplaning and asked the FA. She read the whole time, as did I.

Not on a flight, but saw John Lennon & Yoko Ono walking thru the British Airways Terminal in JFK in Jan 1977. They were there picking up John's son off Concorde. The terminal was not busy (due to Concorde's arrival time) and no one bothered or seemed to even notice them. They met their son off the flight and walked to their limo.

Back in 1989 - as a kid - the (back then) famous tennis player Ivan Lendl was on our PA flight from JFK to MIA. I just remember it to be an evening flight on an A300 that was somewhat delayed.

In the mid 90s my parents were on the same plane from PMI to HAM as was the German soccer legend Uwe Seeler. He was president of the Hamburger SV back then, and when my Dad opened his paper to had read that one of their best players had just been sold to Bayern Munich. He was almost willing to go up and ask him, how he could have been on vacation while his best player lured away... Big grin

Well, I did see Brad Pitt surrounded by body guards in MEX. I know it wasn't a flight but I think it's worth mentioning.

My mom was a flight attendant for MX for 11 years and saw tons of both Mexican and American celebrities. Can't recall a specific one she served but she did tell me that in the mid 80's she was on a flight to Tokyo and when she told the JL flight attendants that she was one as well, they invited her to first class to meet the 80's band Toto.

Cloris Leachman-superb person so very, very nice. I love her!
Harry Hamlin-very handsome
Ted Danson-Very nice person
Amy Grant-Very nice. Love her voice.
Carol Burnett-I was very lucky to have met her since I am a huge fan. Very nice.
Obsessed is just a word the lazy use to describe the dedicated.

I saw a lot of celebs in my time on the ramp with QX:

Michael Keaton : super-cool, was coming from a hunting trip in BZN and connecting to LAX. I got to ramp transfer him to the AS Board Room at SEA. Was very down-to-earth and genuine.

Woody Harrelson : flying SEA - EUG. Looked stoned as hell! Hit on a friend of mine on the ramp (she's a cutie, so he's got good taste)

Pres. Jimmy Carter. Flying SEA - PDX. This was a cool experience, with all the USSS agents milling about. Since the plane was on my spot, I got to stay and wasn't shooed away like the others when Carter showed up (they even did this "shell-game" fake with a separate black Suburban)...got to shake his hand.

Jean Claude Van Damme : one word...short! He looks huge in the movies, but man is he tiny in person!

Kiefer Sutherland : I kind of expected him to be an ass for some reason, but he was really cool in person

Ron Jeremy : Nasty man! Flew to YEG from SEA. It was a riot to see him sitting in the terminal...this sweet little old lady sat down next to him and struck up a conversation. She probably would have expired if she knew who he was! I did help him with his gate-checked bag (it, no joke, weighed around 100 lbs...I don't want to even guess at it's contents). He did autograph his boarding pass for me...I still have it in my flight case

My girlfriend recently had Sandra Bullock and Jesse James on her flight from PDX to SEA. A few months back, Sen. Ted Stevens was on another flight of hers from PDX to SEA...he wrote up a positive comment card about her...I still give her shit about that one!

The Air France PARIS - LAX (and v.v.) flights are usually very good for celebrity spotting.

When I was a child, Jodie Foster (a child star at the time) was on the Paris bound flight once. More recently, Matt Bianco (Friends) was flying in First class (CDG-LAX) and queued for passport check in LA as everyone else did. He was carrying a motorcycle helmet with him which I thought odd.
But the big one was Brad Pitt (CDG-LAX). He was up in first and I was traveling upstairs (B744) in business. I walked down to exit at deplaning and he actually told me to "Please Go ahead" and let me deplane before him. He was wearing a hat of some sort and dark glasses. He was met by AF personnel and wisked off through customs - he didn't have to wait as Bianco did. On the same flight was a third rate French television personality who hosts VideoGag (like America's funniest home videos) Bernard Montiel with a very good looking young model type guy. Hmmmmm????
Also I sat in front of Christophe Dechavanne (French TV personality) and his blond American wife (?) in First Class on CDG-LAX with Air France. He was a bit obnoxious and talked an awful lot.
Other celebrities: Liza Minelli on Pan Am (JFK-LAX) - she was trying to upgrade her friend from economy up to business.
Also Joan Rivers (and her little dog) JFK-LAX on Delta. French talentless and scary looking singer Johnny Halliday on Air France LHR-CDG. He had difficulty walking down the aisle. Brazilian music legend and minister of culture Gilberto Gil : he sat across the aisle from me in first class on AF GIG-CDG. Always have been a big fan of his, but I was too intimidated to say anything...

In August, 1994, my sister and I were flying an American Eagle Saab 340 DFW-FSM. A roadie-type guy across the aisle started up a conversation with my sister (I got a bit protective, but I don't think it was going anywhere). After a while he mentioned that he was in Conway Twitty's band...and Conway himself was seated in the very back of the plane.

We saw him clearly when we got off the plane in Ft. Smith and arrived at baggage claim...he was wearing 70's knee-high white socks, shorts, a t-shirt, and a neon pink baseball cap. At least he was comfortable. I did find out that Saab 340's carry a LARGE amount of cargo...a lot of their equipment came out on the carousel. I didn't speak to Mr. Twitty, but he did seem comfortable and pleasant.

In 1987, when one could still go to the gate area of the terminal, I was putting my mom on the red-eye AA flight from LAX to DFW. We realized almost simultaneously that the late Ray Charles was waiting for the same flight. Several people came over to him and his companion to say hello. He was smiling and sweet and talked to them. Before boarding for anyone else began, a flight attendant came out and personally escorted Mr. Charles and his companion onto the plane. I thought that was a nice gesture.

Sat behind Elvis Costello in a Varig 777, Sao Paulo to Buenos Aires, in october 2005.

Came back from Tokyo to Sao Paulo, in 1992, with Sao Paulo F.C. soccer team, few days after they've won the world championship match against Barcelona. I was 12 years old then, and was in Tokyo with my father for the game. While waiting in the lounge at Narita, a gentleman called Luis Alfredo introduced himself and asked if he could join us since we were speaking portuguese. He was the game narrator for Globo Television. So, during the stop in Los Angeles, Mr. Luis Alfredo took me around the transit lounge and introduced me to the players. It was very nice of him and that made me a very happy kid.

And I flew back from Paris next to the great Ayrton Senna, also in '92. I was(and still am) such a fan of him that I never had the nerve of asking him for an autograph or a picture. He was so nice with everyone, and you could feel the joy of the passengers next to him and the crew in having him onboard. He was very shy with all the attention and smiling towards him.

Cheers

I have flown several times with Gordon Brown (UK Prime Minister) who frequently flies with bmi on the LHR - EDI route.

I flew beside Natalie Imbruglia from a flight from Toronto to Manchester about 4 years ago. She was with her mum and a baby.

Earlier this year I flew with Peneolpe Keith (Bristish actress) on bmi from LHR - GLA.

I never seem to be on the same plane, but have plenty of airport events...

strangely my favorite was an airport conversation I had with Angela Landsbury - we talked about her vacation home in Ireland. If I didn't know better it was more like having a pleasant convo with the person in the next chair.
I want to live in an old and converted 727...
