Cheapest Destination To Fly BA Club World?

Thu Sep 20, 2007 6:37 am

Does anyone know which destination is cheapest to fly to on British Airways' Club World?

I have just found return flights to Dubai this December 2007 for £1400 return including taxes - a pretty good price for a 6/7 hour Business Class trip!

Anyone know of any others which go for that cheap? I guess Dubai is one of the nearest destinations to London where Club World is offered.

Boston?
Cairo?

When I checked I chose out on 20 November, back on 27 November. For DXB I got £2048. But if I changed the dates to 21 and 26 November it came tumbling down to £1288 return!

Prices to other short longhaul destinations were much more consistent. I got:

TLV £1378
CAI £1402
KWI £1434
NAI £1510

Perhaps I should tell you this, but I have just come back from a trip to Dubai that cost me £698 including all taxes in Club World (Booked through Expedia)

You best bet is not to book direct with BA but to book through Expedia / E-Bookers as they sometimes have exclusive special offers.

Not Club World, but BA just had a special World Traveller (Y class) seatsale from Switzerland to many longhaul destinations, mostly North America but also a few others (HKG was one, forget the others). It was for travel starting September 1 through much of the winter but had to be booked by about a week ago. The fares were quite good, lower than the lowest fares of most other major carriers for the same period.

The unusual part of the offer was the ability to upgrade one or both longhaul sectors to World Traveller Plus for 350 Swiss Francs each (USD296/GBP148) regardless of destination. With the upgrade both ways you could travel WTP for about half, sometimes less, of the usual lowest WTP fare to many destinations.

At the other end of the scale, BA has another current longhaul offer from Switzerland (and perhaps other markets). If you pay the full Club World return fare to many (about 25) longhaul destinations, you get a free upgrade to First class in one direction only, either outbound or return. That one has to be booked by the end of October for travel through the end of March. They've had that offer a few times before.

TLV would be one of them. As i think its one of the shortest routes that implement the International Classes.

If your point of origin is outside the UK, you'll get a lower fare,

I'm flying a round trip VLC-MAD-LHR-LAX on the first week of November on Club World for only 3750 EUR, so less than 3000 GBP,

Not the lowest CW fare but it's much cheapier than usually (5000-6000EUR).

A plus to consider is that on LAX you'll get the new CW for sure,

That was a fare error, Expedia also had F for ca. £1000 rtn. No reason not to look at Expedia but don't expect those kinds of breaks in the fares.

It might just be a fluke but it seems if you opt for a lower class and then select an upgrade when making the initial booking, the fare might be cheaper.

I checked out LHR-JFK flying out on 7 February returning on 14 February on Y+. The fare including taxes was GBP 489 return. It then gave me an option to upgrade at a cost of GBP 1,102 for both the outbound and return trip, making a total fare for Club at GBP 1,591. Using a different PC I then looked at the fare on the same dates assuming the original booking was for Club and it quoted a fare of GBP 2,107 - an extra GBP 516. Just in case they had sold some seats in the microsecond between my visits, I then rechecked the fare with upgrade and it still was GBP 1,591.

It might be that a Y+ fare and an upgrade does not give you all the extras when flying Club (e.g. the same number of air miles or perhaps you cannot use the Club Lounge at LHR), but you will fly in Club and receive all the benefits once airborne.

Does BA not guarantee that if you find a cheaper fare than that quoted on their website for the same flight on the same day, they'll refund the difference?

Very true. While playing around on ebookers a few weeks ago, i found a ZRH-LHR-HKG-BNE return trip in J on CX and BA for just under €3000. Quite impressive in my opinion.

Not that I've used that tool but the BA rules are pretty clear cut. If you're flying in Club World you get all the benefits, lounge, bonus miles, tier points, the lot...

Nice find on the cheap upgrade thingermejig. Might give that a whirl sometime, perhaps what it doesn't offer me the chance to upgrade to First for just $7980 one way... biggrin

Yeah, almost booked myself into first, but decided not to, however, I did kick myself afterwards! But it did give me the Chance to try the new club world.

Another cheap one that people on another site use is AUH to MCT, I think the first class return is about $400, quite a few people spend a week travelling back on forth to get Gold status on Executive Club.

TLV Isn't on that list. Anybody know why they didn't put it on the list?
