Continental, Time For A New Livery!?

Tue Oct 02, 2007 11:44 am

OK this is in the Aviation Polls & Preferences so please dont judge me. But it just seems to me that the Continental Livery is beginning to look outdated. Any comments wll be greatly appreciated.  Smile

I for one (especially with all the bad to worse changes lately....Spirit...ugghh.) say they can keep it. It doesnt look half bad, its just another airline livery. Most of the aviation community seems to be happy with it, and definitely wouldnt want them pulling a spirit on us.

If it aint broken...

DL : Bahh! Time to re-design
Spirit : Change it so it is!
AA : Livery? Change?  rotfl
CO : Dont Fix it  Smile

I agree--dont' change it. An airline livery says a lot about how the airline compares to that of times past. As CO is proud of their status as one of the more comfortable US legacy carriers, I think they should keep the current scheme. Any change should always be an improvement. Keep in mind the cost/benefit ratio of repainting an entire large fleet, like that of CO.

To make my point, I know a lot of people wish the old NW would not only return with their old livery, but their old service standards as well. If the new focus is on service, as they have stated, maybe a return to something more akin to the red/white/gray would be appropriate.

Many will say AA needs a change. Based on what? There is nothing "wrong" with their current livery, and is very distinctive. If people still associate the bare metal and Eagle with good AA service, then good for them, even if we all know the AA of today is not what it used to be, although from the outside, it looks like it ought to be.

Totally agree. CO's livery still looks good and passengers don't choose an airline based on the paintjob on the aircraft. Other than AA, CO must be the only major US carrier that's had its entire fleet in a uniform livery for the past few years which presents a much more consistent image. When you change liveries it means that it's going to be several years before everything is uniform again. Look at DL. How long has it been since the entire DL fleet has had a single livery?

AA's livery also looks as good today as it did almost 40 years ago when it was introduced. Many carriers that have spent millions on expensive image design consultants have wound up with new liveries that, in my opinion, are usually worse than the ones they replaced. Spend that money on the inside of the aircraft where it directly affects the customer, not on the outside.

CO's livery looks very nice in my opinion. THe interior of the aircrafts and specially the uniform of the crews needs a TOTAL MAKE OVER.... They are still in the 1980's as far as design goes...

Well I will be the first to disagree. While I believe CO livery is very nice, I wouldn't mind seeing it slightly updated. Not a whole makeover, but a slight change adding a tad bit of color.

Agreed. Gold was an important color in earlier Continental schemes, and it is a shame its not more integral to the current livery.

To me, the current CO livery falls into the same category as AA's livery, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." It's a livery that should still look good 10 years from now. This livery represents the rebirth of CO after the Lorenzo Years and its' effects. The only way I could see the livery going away in the next 5-10 years would be if they were bought out by another airline.

Please dont change it dont, it will be like Delta's move, would be horrible, Delta Planes are ugly now, wouldnt want to see CO in ugly colors either.

No! If anything, it could use a very minor update, something like what AZ and QF did recently. If I had to change anything, I'd just do these:
- Add a second color of gold (a lighter shade) to the globe in spots to make it look more three-dimensional
- Thicken the cheatline a bit
- Maybe gradually curve the cheatline lower toward the front so it goes below the nose, i.e. the same shape on Ryanair's cheatline.

But regardless, the livery looks really good. Actually I didn't know it was from 1990 or 1991 until earlier this year and I was shocked because it seems so much newer than that.

The point Alex made was what I was trying to make. I dont want a complete revamp, but a few small updates and color would be great. Nevertheless, I do believe their current scheme is very classy and would not want to jeopardize that.

Continental has a great thing going all around. No sense in rebranding any part of it. The livery is still classy, and while maybe a little boring, is still Aesthetically pleasing. Cabin crew uniforms could use a makeover. Most of their interiors are still in good shape.

Let COs livery be as it is!!!!

I really like COs livery, I cant see any need for a new one. Hope it will be remaining as it is for a long time ahead.

I think the continental livery looks fine the way it is right now. If there's nothing wrong with it, why bother changing it (hm hm DL). I think AA should change their livery, the current one is too old and boring, i want to see something new and fresh.

AA's livery is not any more boring than CO's. I dont like AA's, but CO's is just as plain.

I think their current livery is fine. Here are some other opinions: Continental - Time To Change Livery? (by AA7295 Aug 6 2007 in Aviation Polls & Prefs) Old Vs.
