Which Airline To SFO [From IAH/HOU Or AUS]?

Wed Oct 03, 2007 9:48 am

Continental is the cheapest at $350.00, but I wouldn't mind stopping in DEN on F9. Frontier's fare is 295.00 for the first week of December. It is 395.00 for the first week of January. I will be flying on January 2nd and 5th. Any chance that the fare will drop to match the fare from the first week of December? (IAH)

AUS is about $50.00 more than IAH, and I don't have much choice out of HOU.

I would stick with Continental - they are both the cheapest and offer a non-stop flight for your convenience. Connecting in DEN is risky that time of year as they get blizzards sometimes - and even just flurries can cause delays and whatnot. Also, Continental has the best service of any of your non-stop options (the others are Southwest [to Oakland] and United).

I would try to get on the 757, but CO also flies 737-800s on the route which are also nice. I'd avoid the 737-300 unless it is the only one that fits your schedule. There is nothing wrong with a 737-300, but if you can pick between a 737-300 and a 737-800, the 737-800 is newer, has a more eye-pleasing interior, and has bigger overhead bins.

As for Frontier's fare - someone may clarify, but I've always had the impression that flights were relatively cheap between Christmas and New Years' since people often spend both in the same city, but after New Years' everyone is in a crush to get home so fares tend to be a lot higher that week, so I doubt F9's fare will go down.

Oh, by the way, if you're willing to go to Oakland, the fare is only $293 from IAH on Continental. Even once you add the cost of crossing the bay, you'll still save money. So if you haven't booked yet, definitely give OAK some consideration! Plus, CO flies the 737-900 on that route, and according to your profile you've never been on one.

you will also get IFE if you avoid the 733, unless you get a rare bird with the old school monitors.

Hi,

Sorry to barge in, but I will be flying on a CO 738 (PTY-EWR) in Jan. Will it have IFE? If so, what type?

Thanks.

yes, all CO planes with the exception of most 733s and all 735s have IFE. Drop down monitors will show selected programming, probably a movie and Continental vision. Check COs website for monthly programming info.
