How To Get From JFK To EWR...FAST?

Sat Oct 27, 2007 12:17 am

Hello Everybody,

I have a little problem. I arrive with Jetblue at 2:43 pm on SATURDAY in JFK, and my connecting flight is CO at 6:50 pm to ZRH.
Now what is the FASTEST way to get to EWR? Is it even possible? Please help!!!!!

Regards,

That's plenty of time to hop in a (Yellow, licensed) cab and ride down to EWR. If you are that concerned about time, US Helicopter has service between the two airports (about 8 minutes) for about $150. It departs from T3 at JFK (DL) and arrives airside (no need to go through security again) at terminal C in EWR.

Just to clarify the above post:

First of all, if possible don't check a bag to save time. However it seems you are from Switzerland so your baggage plans are probably already set from when you flew here.

Secondly, for the most part you can take a taxi cab directly there. It will be more expensive than public transit, but public transit goes through Manhattan, rather than a direct EWR-JFK link. If traffic is bad while you are in the cab, this should be fine but don't be slow in the airport, i.e. get off the B6 flight, get your bags, get a cab, go right to the Continental international check-in line, go through security, go to the gate.

I just remembered this, and this contradicts the post above: US Helicopter does not operate on weekends. This will not be an option for you. Fortunately, the fact that it is Saturday means lighter traffic, so the US Helicopter shouldn't be necessary anyway, as it would only be a last resort if your flight was delayed.

One more consideration. Flights to and from both airports are delayed a good amount, so check the flight statuses often.

http://www.goairporter.com/ specialises in JFK-EWR transfers. They charge $24. They may be worth looking at.

That would be the FASTEST solution of all, although the airporter shuttle does a good job as well.

Thanks for clearing that up. I guess that's due to a lack of business travel on weekends?

AirTrain should work easily as well. Land at 243p at JFK means you should be able to make around a 320p train out of Jamaica (trains run every 5-10 minutes to Penn Station), which gets into NY Penn by 350-4p. Transfer to a NJ Transit train (runs every 20-30 minutes) and takes 30 minutes to get to EWR. Should get you to JFK by about 5 p.m. which would be sufficient to get to Terminal C.

That being said, Airporter is probably as good of an option as it doesn't involve taking 2 trams and 2 commuter trains and navigating Penn Station.

I realize your plans are already set, but really, in the future, don't put yourself in the situation of having to transfer between airports in the NYC area.

It really is quite difficult at times due to construction, traffic volume and a host of other annoyances. Plus, CO could probably have gotten you from wherever it is that you are flying into JFK from, and you would have been at EWR for your connection.

Not trying to pick on you, rather, just put out the word out that you really don't want to connect at two different NYC airports.

Telling from the OP's signature and the info in his profile, the flight presumably originates at NAS ...

Well, there's soooo many options for getting from NAS to ZRH with just 1 change of plane, it's just unfortunate that our friend picked the one that is going to be a major hassle!

Hello,

I was aware that I had to change planes when I booked, I am already back in NAS, as I had to attend a family emergency in ZRH. I am also aware that I could have gone BA via LHR, LX via MIA, or DL via ATL, however as I had to book only 2 days in advance, CO was the cheapest from EWR, however their NAS-EWR flight did not connect on the way back, and was 400$ more expensive than Jetblue, which I ended up taking. The other reason why I didn't go with DL or LX, is becasue they were over $1,700 which just didnt make sense as opposed to the 829$ I spent on Co EWR-ZRH-EWR, plus $200 for the B6 NAS-JFK-NAS

I hope that explains everything,,,,,,,,,,

1. I hope things are fine over at ZRH for your family. These circumstances indeed can cause/dictate some *odd* routings ...
2. Sounds like you were able to make that JFK to EWR connection in time. Which mode of transport did you use ?

Dankeschoen for your kind words.

I ended up getting a ride with a friend, and made it in 90 mins. so still plenty of time to catch my CO flight to ZRH.

Cheers from chilly 23 degree Celcius NAS......
