Longest Scheduled A320 Flight

Mon Dec 10, 2007 1:26 pm

I just saw that BD operate a 10hr 45min journey ADD-AMM-LHR on an A320. That's quite literally a long haul on short haul aircraft. Can they achieve the required yields?

Is this the longest scheduled A320 flight currently or historically in service? Has anyone flown it?

It may be 10h45mins but thats with a stop in between so probably only two 4h30min flights? Surely it would just be like doing 10h45mins worth of intra-european hops, right?

I think some airlines operate A320s from scandinavia to the canary islands. That's quite a long hop for the little airbus.

Does somebody still fly an A320/A321 Tehran to London? JetBlue can't match that.

BMI (BMED) operate the A321 on this route, which is 2749 miles. They also though fly to ALA, via SVX in Russia, which is a total distance of 3599 miles in each direction - operated with both the A320 and A321 on different days.

Qatar Amri Flight often send their busses to LHR (A320 included I think), that's 3259 miles direct, although obviously they won't have very much on board.

SAS flies during the summer from CPH to Kangerlussuaq in Greenland, but I think that's with the A319 only?

Edit; thought of a few more:

LHR-DKR 2703 miles
LHR-EVN-FRU (Yerevan-Bishkek) 3825 miles

Both on BMI

I believe some of the bmi (ex-BMED) A320/321s used on those routes have an additional fuel tank in the cargo compartment. There was another thread on a similar subject a few months ago mentioning this.

I realise it stops in AMM. I'm worndering what the longest scheduled flight is WITH stops. If you pick up the aircraft in ADD, 10hrs 45mins is a long time to be on an A320.

It's unfortunate that most of the people who complain about 10 hrs on a narrow-body aircraft didn't have the opportunity to do any longhaul travelling in the 707 and DC-8 era on flights that could be 3 times as long. 30 hours plus with 5 or 6 stops wasn't unusual on the early jets on routes like Europe-Asia/Australia etc. The A320 family has a wider cabin than all the earlier narrow-body jets. I personally prefer smaller aircraft as the service is usually faster and it doesn't take as long to board or deplane.

United has a flight from IAD-SFO which is 5 hrs, 40 minutes on an A319. Too long for that aircraft if you ask me. I flew economy on this flight and it was very cramped, even for my 5'10" self. I thought this was impressively long for the small airbus. If there are flights on the A320 series longer than this, then all I can say is, HOLY COW!

AC has a flight from YHZ --> YYC on an A319. It is the same length as the one you mentioned.

AC also used to operate YVR-YHZ and YVR-MIA back in the day with the A319, now with YYZ being the hub that it is, I guess these flights have stopped.

Did on airline from Tunisia fly to YUL with a stop in Greenland or Iceland?

Alitalia operates a few long-haul with the A320: MXP-DKR and MXP-THR, the first is about 6 hrs long, the second some 4hrs 30mins if I remember it well..

AC has many nonstop sectors over 5 hours using the A319/320/321. I think the following are the longest in the current schedule.

JFK-YVR A319 6:19
YUL-SFO A319 6:15
YUL-LAX A319 6:02
YHZ-YYC A319 5:45
YUL-YVR A320/321 5:44
YOW-YVR A320/321 5:35

Manchester-Trabzon-Islamabad is 3485nm with Airblue, another rather long one.
