Constellation And 787

Sun Dec 23, 2007 5:22 pm

Hello Old timers  duck  old

As I look back at photos taken during the glory days (1950s, and 1960s), I find myself wishing I had been around to fly on these magnificent prop-liners, such as the Lockheed Constellation. So I have 2 questions

1. Do we, as enthusiasts, take aviation for granted, and fly only on the rare types

and

2. Do you think, that as we age, and airliners such as the 737 (all series), 717, and 757 are retired, and slowly phased out of all fleets, we will be wishing we had flown on these more? or will we continue to gaze at the Constellation long after our hair turns silver, and our grandchildren are admiring the Airbus A540, and the Boeing 929?

717,

I don't think th B717 is that widly used as the B737 or B757 with just FL,VX and other airlines with smaller fleets
I think the B717 will be retired and not many will have flown on it

Great original thread!

I've been on countless, but you're right.. I know of a bunch of people who still want to fly on this bird.

Do you think FL will retire theirs early, and sell them off to other needy airlines (still flying old DC-9s) in favor of newer 73Gs or 738s?

As mentioned in other threads FL will keep their B717's 20-25+ years... or as
long as NW has kept their DC-9's
FL's B737's are on a different mission than the B717's
B717 fly shorter east coast routes example: BWI,BOS,LGA,SWF-ATL,MCO,TPA,RSW,FLL*
while the B737's fly longer east to west coast routes ATL-LAX,DEN

WN seems to be doing fine without 717s on their short routes.

WN puts smaller aircraft on the shorter routes not the -700 (e.g. 737-300, B737-500)
as you probably know the -500 is one of the smallest B737 models, WN puts this aircraft on the shorter routes with smaller loads

I will certainly never wish that I had flown on the 737 more.
