What Is The Oldest Aircraft You Have Flown On?

Tue Jan 01, 2008 10:39 pm

After looking at these threads What's The Biggest Plane You've Flown On? (by Super80DFW Dec 29 2007 in Aviation Polls & Prefs) and What Is The Smallest Plane You Flown On? (by B747forever Jan 1 2008 in Aviation Polls & Prefs)

I thought I would start one on the oldest aircraft you have flown on.

Mine are a tie between these two.

RE: What Is The Oldest Aircraft You Have Flown On?

Tue Jan 01, 2008 11:00 pm

To be honest, I'm not entirely sure as most of the very old aircraft I have flown are not well detailed so it's difficult to find out when they first flew or were manufactured. The oldest I know for sure would be from a flight just a few days ago, on a British International Sikorsky S-61 which, built in 1972 (trip report here: http://www.airliners.net/discussions/trip_reports/read.main/116129 ) - I had no idea the aircraft was so old!

Other likely candidates would be;

RP-C3339 - a NAMC YS-11 which I flew in last year and only know that it was built sometime before 1974.
YK-AQE/AQB - Yakovlev Yak 40's which I flew just under a year ago, again they were old, but I don't know how old.

Any help on tracking down manufacturing dates for the above would be very much appreciated!

Both of the a/c I mentioned in the What Is The Smallest Plane You Flown On? (by B747forever Jan 1 2008 in Aviation Polls & Prefs) thread were built in 1929, so they are the oldest and smallest a/c I've flown on:

A NW DC-9-32 built in 1968 was probably my oldest. Mind you I have been on some old B732's but I don't have their regs so...

Hmm... the oldest would be LN-WND a DC3 built in 1942. Second would be the Swiss Super Connie, HB-RSC, witch was built in 1956.

I am sure it was a DC-93 from US. Oldest prop was B99 of US express.

About 21 yrs 6 months when I flew it

Flown older types, but none as aged as this in terms of years since manufacture.

That impressed me! Thanks for sharing WILCO737.
My oldest was a Ford Tri-motor, a NW DC 9 N8920E and N8921E, both 1967 vintage flow in 2007 and 2006.
And Continental's barnstormingthe USA DC 3, when it was at MKC 6 or 7 years back.

A DC-3 flight in 2005 (I don't remember exactly) of Aeroejecutivos in a flight between Los Roques and Caracas.

Great flight but very noisy.

I don't know which one was older,

Boeing 737-200 Ryanair
Mc Donnell Douglas DC9-50 Northwest

Loved the rides!

My upcoming trip to Asia I will find myself on Air Philippines' 737-200 twice, I bet they're not so young, too!

Mine is the Boeing 727-200ADV of Champion Air. I flew on two of these. They were my first flights and I didn't get the registrations, so I don't know how old they are. I do know, however, that 727 production ended before production even started on all of the rest of my planes, so they must be my oldest.

Without having the exact stats some experts here know ---my guess would be some of past TW and current NW - DC-9's. Probably some of TW-DL-NW-UA-AA's - 727's were also close to 20 years or more before they retired. On lots of those.

Either one of NW's DC-9-10's or NW or KE's 727-200's. Maybe even an NW 741 as well. No regs though  Sad

Hi!

The oldest airliner I flew was this one here under:

Airplane: MDDouglas DC-10-10
Airline: United
Flight: ORD/DEN
Date: 1998/08/07
Registration: N1811U
Age at time of the flight: 26 years and 4 months

Taken a month before I flew it to that same aeroport, SEA!

The oldest airplane I flew was a military airplane, here it is:

Airplane: Lockheed T-33A
From: Portugal Air Force
Flight: BEJA/BEJA
Date: 1991/11/12
Registration: FAP1928
Age at time of the flight: I think this plane had more or less 40 years old!!!

It's not the same plane but it had the same livery at the time of my flight. This airplane arrived in 1979 from Belgium Air Force, it was ex: FT-21.

any one of the 8 convair 580s I flew on in college would probably count as my oldest, since i have no real way to authenticate the age of the planes i flew on, (i have the reg numbers, but airlinerlist doesn't list their full histories back to orginal manufacture/first flight date) I wouldn't be sure which of those specific CV 580s is actually the oldest. they all date back to the 1950s (and were in beautiful shape despite being 30 plus years old at the time, kudos to Aspen airways for keeping them in service)
Yes, I'd like to see airbus go under so Boeing can have their customers!

I flew on a pretty good number of Valujet DC-9's, but I have no clue as to their ages.

The one I know for sure is a Northwest DC-9, N915RW, delivered 10-4-1967.
