Ever Been Inverted?

Wed Jan 02, 2008 6:25 am

Once, when I got to fly in a DeHavilland Chipmunk. It's one of the best feelings ever. Big grin

So, you ever got to go inverted while airborne?  Smile

Cheers

I have, in three different airplanes. A Cessna 150, an Extra 300, and a Fairchild PT-23.

The PT-23 was interesting. Being an open cockpit, you realize very quickly that you should have left your car keys back at the hangar, and not in your pants pocket.

The only time I have been inverted while airborne was FRA-JNB on an SAA 346. I was flying business class and with the lie flat seat I was able to sleep face down  Smile

rotfl  Very good! I was thinking: I have never been inverted, but when I see it that way, then i was inverted several times!

But with an acutal aircraft I have never been inverted.. and I intend to keep it that way Big grin Wouldnt be much fun in the MD11F... or maybe it would  duck

Once, in a Tiger Moth at the Nowra Airshow in Australia - went up for a 10 minute ride including a bit of aerobatics - he looped it for me - very cool.

Got a ride in a P-51 being ferried from HPN to Oxford airport in Connecticut.

We climbed to 5500 feet and he rolled it a few times over Candlewood Lake in Danbury CT.

I've done something that even most career chopper pilots can't say - I've been inverted in a helicopter. Albeit briefly, did a loop in one. It was in a NOTAR, and I had a grin on my face for two days after that.  bigthumbsup

Grob Tutor 115e for me. On my familiarisation flight and then again on a 'we can't do the programme today so lets go and dick about' flight.

Good fun!
