Sleeping In CDG?

Fri Jan 11, 2008 3:21 am

I am thinking about taking a trip to Paris but my only problem is that my flight home leaves on Sunday at 6:50am from CDG. I know the train will be closed and i would rather not pay a taxi. Are people allowed to sleep in CDG?

Well I guess, considering what that famous guy did when he stayed in CDG for what 10 years?

Would your flight leave from Terminal 1 or one of the 6 concourses that form Terminal 2 ?

Alternative could be to use of the hotels located close to CDG.
The Sheraton at T2 might be a bit pricey
But there is a Novotel at Roissypole (the RER / bus interchange next to Terminal 3 - please note that the RER station is called " ... Charles de Gaulle Terminal 1" ) which is connected to Terminals 1 and 2 via the automated train system CDGval (rides are free of charge).
Other hotels in the vicinity of CDG might be even cheaper (I found at least one Ibis) but these require a (shuttle)-bus ride to the terminals (check if the hotels offers free rides).

I have seen people stretched out on benches during the day w/o being chased away or harrassed. But the situation at night might be different.
The ground floor of T1 might be a place to check out.

The IBIS at RoissyPole isn't bad - it's 100m from T3, which is handy, and there's the CDGVAL light rail to T1 and T2 right there as well. That's usually where I spend the night if I have to stopover in PAR between flights.

There are a few Hotel Formule 1s within shuttle distance - these would be the cheapest hotels around.
There's a website called "Sleeping in airports" which lists people's experiences, good and bad, sleeping around airports (surprisingly enough!). However, it shows CDG as one of the world's worst...
Otherwise the hotel in Roissypole would be the best bet. There may even be an Ibis there as well.

Like I said in reply #2, the ground floor of T1 appears to be okay.

CDGVAL takes less than 5 minutes from Roissypole to Terminal 1.
Go up one level and you are at Check-in.
Do not show up too late, as waiting queues before Security Check (which is done in the Satellites) can be rather long, depending on time and number of a/c served.

An IBIS indeed should be even less expensive than a Novotel (same chain, different brands).
on accorhotels.com the IBIS has code 1404 while the Novotel has 1014.

It's quite a long shuttle, and Formule 1 is pretty much a prison run on commercial lines - cell-like rooms and shared bathrooms. Survivable but not actually very nice. There are other cheap hotels in the same areas (ZI's or Industrial Zones around CDG) that also have shuttles to RoissyPole e.g. the Etap that are 1 step up.

Talking from experience, do you ?

When I have to stay overnight in CDG I prefer the Novotel which is NOT connected to the Terminal at CDG. You have to take the shuttle to get there. But I dunno if the shuttle starts that early in the morning.

I have slept overnight in the terminal, E is I remember correctly. It was very, very cold and the cleaners didn't seem too impressed, but apart from that there was no problems from the airport authorities. I was in a similar situation to yourself; flew in late from AMS on the Varig MD11 and was leaving again very early the next morning, so just couldn't justify the cost of a hotel for only a very short amount of time.
