Each US Airlines Shortest Route (Mainline Only)?

Sun Jan 13, 2008 3:48 pm

WN: I believe RSW-MCO but not quite sure.
US: I think they do PHL-BWI with a 737 once or twice a day.
UA:???????
AA: Maybe SJU-STT with the 757.
CO:IAH-AUS???? 737
FL: ?????
NW:DTW-Saiganaw with DC-9 or MEM-BNA with A320 series.
B6:?????
F9:??????

Used to be DEN-COS run by A319/320, but it's now all UAX. I'd imagine now it's the seasonal DEN-EGE.

These are incorrect. DTW-MBS is quite short, at only 98mi, but NW runs a "triangle" Hawaii route with it's 753's....SEA-OGG-KOA-SEA. The OGG-KOA part is only 90mi as quoted by NW, or 84mi by GCM.

MEM-BNA is nowhere near either of those at 200mi. Also, as of recent it's a DC9, not A319/320, and it's run on weekends only.

Its two daily CRJ's and a 319  Wink Then in the summer it goes back to 3 daily DC9's

And thats not the shortest either, MSP-RST is only 76 miles. But the actual NW winner is DTW-FNT at 55 miles.

That has always surprised me, and it's even on an A319!

Is there really that much connecting traffic on the route?

I think NW has the greatest number of mainline flights under 250 miles of all US carriers.

I think B6's shortest route is JFK-BOS.

US has a daily mainline flight between PHX and TUS. This is about 100 miles.

I'd agree with IAH-AUS as being the shortest mainline CO flight. They fly it only with mainline too!

How about NK? before DL had one shorter than 134 nm. It was CVG-CMH with a 737 and 757 and maybe an MD-88 but i'm not quite sure.

Haven't they also flown mainline on SDF-CVG in the not-so-distant past?

in some cases yes. I remember days where my family flew FNT-DTW-MCO just to knock 200 dollars off of our tickets. It's a great way to get an additional 500 frequent flier miles into your WorldPerks account (mileage run!), yet the flight is not really much to write home about. Basically you begin to descend only 15 minutes after take-off.
The air in the clouds is very pure and fine, bracing and delicious because it's the same the angels breathe.

I don't know if this is the shortest or not, but CMH-CVG is shorter at 116 miles. It's one mainline a day (the rest is regional jets) and the equipment used to be a 738 when LAX-CMH still operated, but now it's MD-88 equipment. I believe, like USAIR320 mentioned, that a few years ago there were 752's on the route, too.
