Postage Air Mail From Australia To Europe

Sat Jan 19, 2008 8:56 pm

Hi A.netters
It might sound a silly question, however i'd like to ask you:

A friend of mine is sending me a book from Australia to Italy, and I'd like to know... Do you know in wich aircraft belly the airmail usually flies between Australia and Italy (or even the rest of Europe).
My guess would be CX through HKG to FCO.. Or may be it will fly in Cargo companies like FedEx or Singapore Cargo...

Any guesses or information are welcome.

Well...Do you have a reference number? It will help you to track on it.

As far as UK to Rest of World mail goes, then I believe it is sent to LHR from where it leaves on a combination of passenger and cargo only aircraft depending on the amount of it and the destination.

Certainly after working again at the local mail centre this Christmas I am highly envious that a letter can fly all the way to New Zealand for just 78p.  grumpy

Definitely makes me angry too...  Wink For that price I'd stay in the Cargo compartment as well  rotfl
So you don't think Australia Post has exclusive agreements with airlines.. they just decide accordingly to the moment...

Also. You know what's the best/cheapest way to send a drawing (quite a big one like 100x70cm) from Ireland to Italy?

You mean with that number you can track the trip of the package? I don't know may be my friend got one.

I recently tracked a Fed-Ex shipment from Moscow to Brisbane. Instead of going via Asia, it actually went the long way via USA.

Interesting, well probably it's cause of FedEx is an american carrier... or is it allowed to carry Cargo say from Russia to Australia?
One would think cargo is probably more free than passenger as of rights.

I think that the air routing is dependant mostly on the structure of their network.

That's what I suspect. The package went via their central hub/sorting station in the USA, wherever that is - I can't remember.
