JFK-DEL In Y: BA Or AF?

Tue Jan 22, 2008 4:41 pm

I'm planning a trip to India in September. Even though I'm an AA F/A, I don't want to non-rev on our flight from ORD, because I hate the hassle of going stand-by, especially on such a long trip, and I'd rather fly another airline that offers better service. I just want to get on a plane and go. So I'm going to use this trip as an opportunity to fly other airlines I've always wanted to try.

I don't care what equipment I fly. On BA it would be a 744 for the JFK-LHR leg and a 772 for LHR-DEL. AF would be a 773 for JFK-CDG and a 343 for CDG-DEL. The fares ares similar, although BA is about $400 more than AF due to UK taxes. What tempts me is BA's World Traveller Plus, which is also more money, but the taxes are the same. By the time I go T5 at LHR will be open, so transfering will be easier.

I know I could fly CO or AI nonstop, and Jet Airways via BRU, but I want to fly either BA or AF to see what all the fuss is about. What do you all think?

Having flown most of the European airlines that go from EWR via Europe then to DEL. I recommend KL, but between AF and BA. I would choose BA.

The service on BA will be better, but can that justify paying the crazy British taxes?
I love ASO!

I would go with BA here. Although for $400 less, AF is not a bad option.

Being that I am a SkyTeam person ... I would say go AF ... as I have flown with them internationally and they have a good transatlantic product, IMHO. (Expensive, though.)

I also thought BA offers free liquor in Y.

Thanks everybody. I'm going on AF. The $400 less I'll pay in taxes will go toward my hotel.

Is this your first trip to India? I took the AA flight last Oct. and had a great trip.

Yes, I've always wanted to go, and could never find anyone to go with me. So I'm just going to do it on my own.

I've been fascinated by India since I was kid in the 1970s, when my father's cousin married a man from Delhi and we went to this huge Hindu wedding. Sure was different from the Catholic ceremonies I was accustomed to!

I just don't want to fly AA, so I have a real vacation away from work.

Good for you. Let us know your thoughts. How long are you staying, and where will you visit?

I, too, have a fascination with India. I'm planning my 7th visit for this coming October. I'm thrilled that KLM is starting DFW-AMS service soon, and I can try a different route myself. I hope KLM will still use the MD11 AMS-DEL when I'm ready to buy my ticket.

you should go with AF without hesitation as they have the best Y service accross the pond (good food, free wine & champagne, etc)

If there are your only options: I would go BA...

BUT, consider some other airlines. Maybe LH via FRA! JFK-FRA can be a 744 or 343 or 333 and to DEL its usually a 744! And thats the best way to travel  Wink
