Eastern Airways UK

Fri Feb 22, 2008 5:57 pm

Hi All

I am due to go on my first business trip early next month flying BHX - IOM return, Flight will definitely be with Eastern Airways. Does anyone have any experience with them and what they are like as I could not find any trip reports or photots.

Also - I know it will be a prop plane but can anyone tell me what type - quite nervous about this as never been on a prop before.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Stephen

Eastern have an excellent reputation for offering quality service, so you will be well looked after. I beleive they offer complimentary champagne to all passengers. The aircraft will definately be a Jetstream 41, so although not a new aircraft, it should be a comfortable ride, try and get the single seat on the left-hand side, for a little bit more room.

The reason you will find no trip reports is that their fares are just so damn expensive, and i'm sure there are more fun things a.netters can find to spend their money on! I would love to fly on them myself, but just can't justify the money!

Hope this helps

I've never flown them either but I have heard of their good overall reputation. Eastern fill a business focused niche on thin UK domestic routes. No reason at all to be nervous about flying on a prop.

Here a couple of photos I have taken of Eastern Jetstream 41s.

Getting cheaper, fares now start from £49 one-way. Tempting!

I flew Eastern from NCL to ABZ back in March last year and it was a very good experience. "Unfortunately", the work travel agents made a mess of my booking, meaning that I simply had to buy a one-way ticket a couple of hours before the flight at a cost of GBP 160 (I didn't care as I wasn't paying...!). They gave me a pass to the BA Terraces lounge at Newcastle where I sank a few G&Ts and had some sandwiches, before being escorted to the Jetstream 41 for the 40 minute flight to Aberdeen. Yes, the plane was quite old and quite noisy BUT the service was excellent (yes, I got two glasses of champagne!), the views were magnificent (the windows seemed huge!), the legroom was excellent (very comfortable leather seats), the cabin was so small that deplaning took literally two minutes and there was plenty of room on board as hardly anybody had handluggage that was small enough to be taken into the cabin. All in all, I was mightily impressed by Eastern. Oh, and we left NCL 25 minutes early as everybody (except me, I was in the BA Terraces Lounge!) was already on board. We arrived in ABZ 35 minutes ahead of the scheduled flight time.
