Traveling To NYC On AA - JFK Or EWR?

Fri Feb 29, 2008 1:09 am

Hello all,

I will be traveling to the NYC area from SoCal early next month, and will likely be flying on AA. I'm curious to know if its better to fly into EWR or JFK. I would prefer to fly non-stop, so most likely will need to be from LAX, and therefore a widebody 762 (a plus). I've been trying to find out info on AA's new JFK terminal - has it opened for passengers, how is the experience, is it worth it to fly into JFK over EWR, etc. Any comments and info would be much appreciated!

If you like planespotting, JFK has a lot of variety compared to EWR. JFK also has the new AA terminal.

You can take the train (to Penn Station) or cab/carservice - from EWR into the city. And obviously, cab/carservice from JFK. LGA is the usually the shortest trip into the city by cab/car service from my experience, but no non-stop service into LGA from southern CA that I am aware of.

I just finalized my itinerary, and I'm flying from LAX-JFK and back on a 762. I'm still curious as to how the new AA JFK terminal is. Any thoughts, pics, etc?

Overall (I've been there twice), it's a very nice facility. It's big (read: long walk), but overall it's a very pleasant experiences (if you get the right CSA's). My one experience with baggage claim (in the rain) took a while, though.

Thanks!

I was able to find some pics of the new terminal on airchive.com (after doing a google search for jfk terminal 8 pics). Looks very nice and modern. Looking forward to the experience.

Made the right choice in JFK over EWR. 767s are a bit more comfortable than the 757 (although I was surprised to see when I just looked it up that one of the EWR-LAX turns is now a 767-200 right now; goes back to 2x 757 on April 7), better terminal at JFK, ease of JFK/EWR is pretty much equal (EWR is AirTrain to NJ Transit; JFK is AirTrain to LIRR).

Thanks everyone for your responses. I am glad I chose JFK over EWR. Unless I'm flying CO to EWR, I'm not going there again. Regarding AA's new JFK Terminal 8 - WOW! Its beautiful and modern. I didn't even feel like I was in NY. Felt like a modern overseas airport. Its really impressive. Kinda cool to see all of those AA planes in one spot, with great views. Also glad I flew on the 762, nice, roomy, comfortable, smooth. The IFE is nothing special, but its something, and as long as I have my iPod video, I'm set. Looking forward to my next trip now, whenever that will be...
