Airports That May Be Cursed

Fri Feb 29, 2008 6:32 pm

I was thinking about airports that have quite a bit of incusions or incidents and wonder if some airports carry a hex over them. One that comes to mind to me is BUR.

Famous B6 incident of the sideways nosegear - diverted to LAX after takeoff

WN sliding through the fence onto Hoolywood Way and into the Chevron station

WN losing a tire on takeoff, tire rolling into a UA belt loader slightly damaging the UA 733 at the gate

WN flight, I believe in 1995 that was BUR-LAS and diverted to ONT for belly landing after the gear was inop

A-Rods g-4 hitting the new soft barrier installed after the WN incident.

Some airports seem to have alot of incidents ties to them.

LAX seems to have alot of fateful flights originate there.

Swissair crash off long island
Egyptair crash into atlantic

You mean JFK instead of LAX...

SR111 was a JFK-Geneva flight
Egyptair was also JFK-Cairo flight
TWA 800 was JFK-CDG
Be kind to animals! Next trip: ORF-ORD-NRT-IAH-ORF

SR 111 did not originate in LAX.

Also, the aircraft used for TW 800 arrived at JFK from ATH as TW 881 at 1638.

Superstitious! I wouldn't quite call these airports 'hexed', as a metric fuckton of traffic goes through them every day, so I'm sure incidents are bound to happen. JFK and LAX especially fit this profile. I'm sure if you did a ratio of # of incidents per year to # of flights per year, and compared it to another airfield (Let's use PIT), I'm sure you'd find the ratios are fairly similar to some extent.
Something awful.

waaaaa?

LAX has been the final destination for a lot of fateful flights, 3 of the 4 9/11 flights for example, SQ006, and both 191's for AA and DL, etc. But in terms of origin, after Egypt Air 990, I think you have to go back to 1979 for the next one.

It's not an issue of these airports being cursed in regards to terrorist attacks. It's just that terrorists would likely prefer to attack flights bound or leaving from airports like LAX and JFK because they are big markets and will garner lots of attention.
In regards to non-terrorist incidents, I am willing to bet that if you looked at the data analyzing the flight records at all the major airports in the world, the odds of any one flight crashing are probably around the same--basically, the law of averages.

Burbank has a short runway, so diversions will go to other airports nearby with longer runways and better emergency facilities if pilots declare an emergency.

I also think Burbank might be well covered since it is in LA and the media can easily pick up on it. The same stories wouldn't come out of a similarly sized airport out in Kansas since no one would care.
If you have never designed an airplane part before, let the real designers do the work!

So?
all airlines should stop flying to LAX? Or maybe besides the air marshalls , airlines should carry an exorcist too?

Okay, now you are going way overboard, were just speculating a superstition not saying the airports should close or clamp down on flights to/from these places

In the development of DEN, the airport had a lot of controversy from the runway patterns to the cornerstone. You can look on this site:

Denver is supposidly cursed because they built over a indian burial ground and found bodies, they also managed to bury a front-end-loader...
