isn't airtran considered a LCC ?

And is Alaska really that small? They have quite a large presence on the west coast. (maybe small in an international view?)

My favorite Legacy is by far NW. TW was my old favorite

WN is my favorite LCC

I like Skyteam too.

I have not flown on any of the smaller carriers so I don't have a favorite.

My two most favorite airlines are Midwest and Delta. I also liked Midwest Express, but Midwest is a great replacement.

Network (a/k/a Big 6): Continental
Non-Network (everyone else): JetBlue
Alliance: SkyTeam

In order of preference:
Network: CO, AA, DL, UA, US, NW*
Non-Network: B6, FL, AS, YX, WN (have not flown Frontier, Sprit, or Allegiant)

* in fairness to NW, I have not flown on them in over 10 years..on the other hand, I hated MEM, so until I fly them again they come in last. Sorry, NW.

The only legacies I will fly with are AA and CO. AA is my favorite because they have more flights out of LAX. I hate UA. They pissed me off one too many times.

US Airways stock ticker is LCC. In my experience US is usually cheaper than the LCCs, except perhaps on the routes where it has the only non-stop flights.

In the end the distinction is silly, at least from a customer's point of view. A more reasonable distinction would be national & regional carrier or intercontinental & national+CA+MX.

That being said, given the choices, I'd pick:

CO (have never flown DL)
F9 (default, never flown B6 or SX)
none (have not flown any of these)
Star (don't use it, but it has the best coverage)

I partially agree with this statement, but US is pretty expensive to Florida destinations (ex PHL atleast) other than FLL. Also flight to the west coast are most expensive than other options (for the most part, of course they are exceptions)

and according to the "all knowing wikipedia entry"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AirTran_Airways

I completely agree with this, you can have a superlow price with a Legacy Carrier with better service. And on the other side you can have a very expensive price on what is tradional known as a LCC.

Thank you! Somebody noticed that!

Everytime I hear LCC I automatically think about US lol (it's because I love US Big grin) and then I get mixed up because while people are taking about LowCostCarriers, I'm thinking US lol.

Yes, I'll admit, its true. I flew US to MCO pre-merger and it was cheap. Post merger, the only Florida destination I flew to is FLL.

That's why I like AirTran Airways as well.
