Your Longest Flight As PIC In A Light Plane

Thu Mar 13, 2008 6:42 pm

I am finishing up my instrument raiting and I spent 7.7 hours flying one day. This got me wondering what other people have done and I think it would be fun for us light GA pilots to share some stories! List the most time you have spent as PIC in a day and list the routing, and then list the most time you have spent on one leg and the routing. Please keep the aircraft down to light GA and list the aircraft type (Cessna 172 type). I will start:

My long IFR cross country required me to log a bunch of hours because I had gone through the 141 course pretty fast so here is what I did:

Cessna 172S DTO (Denton, TX) -SGR-SSF (San Antonion Stinson)-DTO. I logged 7.7 hours this day and did a giant triangle from the Dallas area to the Houston area, then to the San Antonio area, and back to the Dallas area. I logged 4.5 hours of IMC that day! I spent 3.5 hours on the DTO-SGR leg due to being vectored and shooting a VOR/DME approach and circling to land.

On another occasion a friend of mine and I decided to fly to the end of a sectional chart and flew from GPM (Grand Prairie, TX)-HEZ (Natchez, Mississippi). That was fun flying from the Dallas area to Natchez, Mississippi! I logged 3 hours non-stop and it was quite an experiece to fly over the Mississippi River! OK let's hear your stories!

For me it was one of my solo cross country flights in the B33 and it was 3.5 hours! 3 take offs and landings on 3 different airports...

I did:

MTN-GED-ILG-EVY-33N-MIV-ILM-ORF-PNE-GED

one day in our Malibu during my insurance school/checkout last May. It was raining up and down the eastcoast all day, I think we shot 10 approaches that day, most down to 500'. Of course with this panel is was no big deal:

I think the total was 11.2 hours of flying for the day. I did a lot of long days in that plane, I put 200 hours on it in two months. I'm glad I don't have to fly like that anymore!

Alex.

Well, my instructor signed me off for my final solo from ELP to 61B (Boulder City, NV) where I enjoyed a fun weekend in Vegas and took my private pilot check ride with one of his buddies  Wink Then I had to fly the plane home...each way required a fuel stop en-route.

I have also been in the right seat with an owner (before I got my license) ELP-OSH. Great way to see the country by air, hop along with someone going to Oshkosh  Smile

In one shot, probably 5.5 or 6 in a 172RG for my long commercial cross country. Over a period of a couple days, I logged 18 multi PIC flying from Indiana to Florida and back.

For my CPL qualifying flight I flew OMN-EYW-MLB-DAB-OMN. 8.1 hours in the logbook. Was so glad to be back I burst a tyre on landing... oops  wink

I wasn't officially PIC, but i did the bulk of the flying as i'd had a few lessons back in the UK, i did nearly 8 hours in a C172 (N229ME, KUMP-8D1, which is Indianapolis Metro (Indiana) to New Holstein (Wisconsin)) and the return. The plan was to go to Oshkosh but we couldn't get a lift there, so we just flew all 335 miles back....

And i couldn't log any of it because the PIC wasn't a CFI  Sad

On a C-172 delivery flight from Strother Field (WLD) to Ft. Myers (FMY) total time on the Hobbs meter was 8.8 with fuel stops in Greenwood (GWO) and Tallahassee (TLH).
