Airports You Have Only Visited In Transit

Sat Mar 29, 2008 10:20 am

As the topic suggests, which airports have you only visited in transit? For me it is LAX and DFW. In October I'll add HKG to the list

Connections or airports visited on "milk runs" where I didn't leave the airport - most, of course, are current or former hubs. I should go see some of Atlanta, Houston, Dallas, and Denver someday, I guess...

I've transferred through the following airports.

VIE
BRU
FRA
LHR
ZRH
WAW

However, I have also flown to LHR and ZRH as my final destination, and have also begun journeys back to the states in ZRH. In WAW, we arrived early morning and left late at night, so we left the airport to go see the city (which was amazing, I might add).

I generally have a thing about passing through an airport without visiting the city that it serves, it seems such a waste! There are airports that I have transited through, but have either previously or subsequently spent time in those cities...these are:

OSL
SYD
PIT
RDU
IST
JFK
ARN
JER
ATL
HEL

There are only two airports that I can say I've transited through without ever spending time in the city served:

ZRH
OSD (Ostersund, Sweden...I didn't actually leave the aircraft here)

Andy.

Sadly, I only have one: ORD. I passed through O'Hare for a connecting UA flight to Charles De Gaulle in Paris, France from Seattle. On the way home, I passed through IAD, but I've been to the city before.

For me this applies to every one of UA's domestic hubs. I've transited through ORD, IAD, DEN, SFO, and LAX at least once, but none of those airports have ever been a destination for me.

Other airports I've only been to in transit are ATL, SLC, IAH, and EWR.

My transit-only airports list is quite small:

MXP Milan (Alitalia LHR-CAI)
FCO Rome (Alitalia TLV-LHR)
DUS Dusseldorf (Air Berlin STN-HEL)
VVI Santa Cruz (TAM Mercosur / Lloyd Aero Boliviano ASU-LPB)

JNB might count as I've transferred there, and on one occasion left the airport by car heading to Durban, so have never been to the city.
