Upper Deck Or Lower Deck On The A380?

Sun Mar 30, 2008 3:35 pm

Hey,

So this is pure gloating on my part (for which I make 'some' apologies ) Big grin
At the end of May I'm doing a round the world (of sorts...) trip. LHR-SIN-LAX-LAS-LAX-LHR

My first flight LHR-SIN is on the A380. Unfortunately my budget wouldn't stretch to getting a suite so I'll be stuck in Y. My question for those of you lucky enough to have been on the big bird already is:

Are there any benefits of being on either the upper or lower deck?
I've seen the cabin layout on Seatguru.com and first thought are that the upper deck looks slightly better....

Thanx for any responses.

Quoting Sfuk (Thread starter):

Upper deck Y has those extra storage bins if you're in a window seat. Also, the cabin isn't as wide, and having less passengers around might make it feel less like a cattle car.

Sure, we're concerned for our lives. Just not as concerned as saving 9 bucks on a roundtrip to Ft. Myers.

And service on the upper deck is quicker as well. The upper deck is definately the place to be on the A380 (except if you can afford to be in the Suites)

Upper deck is better, especially if you can get a window as you have the side storage bins - they are excellent for putting your 'junk' in.

In addition, the cabin is smaller so service is quicker/better than the lower desk.

Enjoy your flights.

I would also vote for the upper deck. If you are stuck at a window seat on the lower deck over the wing, the wing rises enough to block much of your view out.
I love ASO!

Definitely the upper deck. The smaller cabin with 2-4-2 seat configuration makes it feel less crowded.

I love the upper deck on the 747, so if I had to choose I'd go for upper deck too. Much more special than the lower deck  Smile

On the 747, I have noticed that we feel less turbulences on the uper deck. Is it the same on the A380?

I was lucky enough to have the A380 both ways and have a flight on both decks. Originally I was to return on a 744.
The upper deck of the A380 had these useful side bins if you have a window seat but is otherwise a lot like flying on an A330 or A340. The lower deck is much bigger and wider but feels pretty much the same as a 747. I could be wrong but the amount of space that a Y seat has on the lower deck seemed a bit more on the lower deck than on the upper deck. Don't know why but I liked downstairs better.
I remember when the DC-3 was new!
