Help! Hawaii Trip Cxld.

Thu Apr 03, 2008 8:11 pm

I need some ideas and insights from any a.net insiders. I booked a trip to the islands to surprise my wife for our 5th wedding anniversary but I'm sure you can guess how that turned to sh*t. I'm looking for cheap fares out of SFO or OAK to any romantic destination (TUS, SBA?), leaving 4/26 and returning 4/28. The aviation dork in me is hoping for obscure routings or types but realistically, I just need ideas for a cheap flight - under $200 rt each.

Thanks in advance for any ideas you can throw my way - I'm desperate.

I may be a little bit off in my calculations, but I can't really see TUS as remotely romantic.  Wink

Why not call Aloha and see if they will let you fly in the cargo hold.  duck

beta.itasoftware.com will give you a hand on your cheap fare search.

As for ideas....need a little more help. I haven't a clue what you both like.

And as for keeping it under 200 this close to travel dates, I would expect fares 300+ per person. And I would start looking asap as your 21 advanced day purchase deadline is coming up pretty quick.

Use that website above to find the cheapest fares and can look up those "obscure routings" you desire  Silly

That, and fares are expected to skyrocket with the recent bankruptcies...

If Hawaii is still appealing, there are decent fares:

SFO-HNL is only $383 r/t on NWA for those dates (darn quick trip, I know, but it is an option).

4/26 to 4/30 SFO-HNL on NW is $378 r/t if you have some additional time.

Hehe - you're quite optimistic that us a.netters are going to find a genuinely romantic destination.  Wink Any airport will do for me.

Yes, I agree --if you can afford to rebook to Hawaii, I am also getting some pretty cheap fare alerts on email to HNL and OGG. Surprisingly low with fuel costs etc.

I go to TUS frequently for work. I think it is a beautiful resort city. If you like the desert there are several beautiful resorts there. Check out the Westin Paloma Resort, it is beautiful. And this time of year is starting the "off season" , so prices should be coming down. And it is not too hot yet, but warm enough to swim, sun etc.

You could get there from OAK on WN. Good luck!

Thanks for the ideas. Looks like UA and WN both have sub $250 fares to TUS

I work for Starwood (parent company of Westin) and get preferential rates and upgrades there

Don't be so harsh! I'm sure some a.netters have a life outside of aviation

For something REALLY unique, come down to San Diego and stay at the Del Coronado hotel:

We're not supposed to be getting any rain anytime soon, and it should warm up nicely!! Plus, there's a multitude of fairly inexpensive flights available.

Seems to be sold out unfortunately. San Diego might be a good idea though.

There is a nice Sheraton on Harbor Island right across from SAN. The Marriott Resort and Hyatt Resort downtown on the bay are lovely. And very close to downtown night spots. If you want to stay north SD in La Jolla, the Valencia Hotel is beautiful.

You didn't say where you are comming from. You could try Utah there are some romantic resorts up around Park City. Savannah is another city I find romantic.
Enough about flying lets talk about me!

Also, if you have the dough, I really, highly recommend the Embassy Suites. They have a huge (free) breakfast buffet. Also from 5p-7p they have a free "reception" of sorts where they have free happy hour drinks and cheap "bar" food and pizza. And the beds are amazing! Plus you can't beat the view unless you spend a lot of money at the Hilton across the street  Wink
