Crazy Trip YYZ & FRA: Any Suggestions Please!?

Thu Apr 10, 2008 1:59 am

Hey guys!

I just booked myself on a reaaaaaaally cool trip, albeit a bit crazy... you'll understand me. Check it out:

    AUGUST 4TH, 2008

  • Caracas (CCS) – Toronto (YYZ)
    Air Canada AC075
    Dep: 00.30
    Arr: 06.40
    Airbus A319

  • Toronto (YYZ) – Frankfurt (FRA)
    Air Canada AC872
    Dep: 17.30
    Arr: 07.00 (AUG 5)
    Boeing 777-300ER

  • Frankfurt (FRA) – Fiumicino (FCO)
    Lufthansa LH3842
    Dep: 10.40
    Arr: 12.40
    Airbus A321

    AUGUST 26TH, 2008

  • Fiumicino (FCO) – Frankfurt (FRA)
    Lufthansa LH3853
    Dep: 06.45
    Arr: 08.45

  • Frankfurt (FRA) – Toronto (YYZ)
    Lufthansa (LH) AC9105
    Dep: 13.20
    Arr: 15.50
    Airbus A340-600

  • Toronto (YYZ) – Orlando (MCO)
    Air Canada AC922
    Dep: 20.55
    Arr: 23.34
    Airbus A319

So, as you can see, I'll fly my dreamed planes: AC 77W and LH A346... it's way too cool... all for US$1400!

Now, the connection time at YYZ is almost 12 hours and will have plenty of time to go out to the city and perhaps do some spotting... are there any AC facilities in which I can buy a pass and take a shower? I wouldn't like to have the same clothes for two whole days!

On my way back, I'll have almost 5 hours to be at FRA, so is that viewing terrace still open? I'd love to enjoy the activity that goes on in that airport!

If any of you can help me plan this trip with some advice I'd really appreciate it! I want it to be perfect

Thanks a lot guys!

Enrique

I have no idea about FRA, but may be able to help with YYZ. First, the bad news:

Quoting 797 (Thread starter):
are there any AC facilities in which I can buy a pass and take a shower? I wouldn't like to have the same clothes for two whole days!

According to the AC website, unless you're on an Executive Fare (doesn't sound like it) or have a *A Gold/AC Elite Membership (or one of the credit cards that they mention) you won't have lounge access. It also seems that it can only be bought as an add-on to certain domestic fares, so I think you're out of luck. I may be wrong though.

As for spotting, there is a place on the roof of the old T2 Parkade, now an employee parking lot. There are no signs saying employees only AFAIK, and I've been up there with security driving right past me without stopping while I was getting some pictures. It offers a great view of the right side of Pier F and of most operations on Rwy. 24L/24R if you have enough 'reach'.

Finally, if you're going into town, the best ( usually cheapest and fastest ) option is to take the 192 Airport Rocket Bus from the ground floor of T1 to Kipling subway station, and then to take the subway and transfer to the north-south line to get to union station, within walking distance of the CN Tower, the waterfront, and other downtown attractions. The trip usually takes 1-1.25 hours each way, at a cost of $2.75

Hope this helps.

Hola Enrique!

The only terrace open at FRA is on T2, you will need to take the Skytrain from T1 and then pay a fee to get in.

Also if you check their website, you can book yourself on a bus tour of the airport, I wanted to do that while in FRA but I spent all my time at the terrace Big grin

Enjoy your trip and the A346 and 77W.

Spotting at YYZ without a car kinda limits your options:

1> Parking Garage of T3, view is ok but not great, also security can be a pain at times.
2> old T2 garage, never been there myself, and access without a car means a bit of a walk but its is accessible from T1, I've been told security isn't a problem there either.
3> Wendy's on Airport rd: LONG walk, basically take train to long term parking (or you can TRY from T3, but it is very easy to get lost in the barriers) and walk up Airport Rd, it is at Orlando Drive. across from Departure end of Runway 23, planes will taxi for takeoff right across the road, and landings go right over the service station next door.

As for shower, one option would be to look into a day room at the Sheraton Gateway at T3, can get a view, a shower and a lie down... prices vary though.
Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.

Uhh, I'll check on that. On AA you can buy day passes for 50 bucks, I've done it a couple of times and it's been quite ok, even though they don't have any showers and stuff like that.

This is true and as the roof is low demand for parking, no one is likely to bother you. That being said however, never leave your vehicle out of your sight as without a parking pass it WILL be towed, and i see cars leaving the parking lot under the care of a tow truck daily!

If you stay at the Sheraton Gateway at T3, this parking lot is an easy walk.
Just because I stopped arguing, doesn't mean I think you are right. It just means I gave up!

Bahh, It's not that long of a walk.  Wink I actually ended up doing this during my reading week. I was staying at my uncles near York Mills so I would take the GO but to T1, hop on the train to the parking lot, then walk to the Wendys.
