Hard question to answer, as in my opinion, most things capable of flying are at least to some extent beautiful. If pushed for an answer, I still don't know what I would say. Maybe the ATR-42 and ATR-72, but they're still pretty cool.

The Concorde. Too long for its length, wings flimsy looking, engines encased in square boxes, and that silly pointy nose that has to droop just to land or take-off. Don't get me started on the interior. Cramped, dated seats, tiny windows, perhaps the ugliest interior in the last 30 years. The whole thing was an abomination.

Ok, here is my ugly plane list.

757

A320 (all series)
The worst culprit being Delta, Continental and JetBlue.
I don't like twins and I especially don't like twins with white fuselage and painted tail.
That just screams generic!  vomit

Well I have to say that the A380 is not the most graceful looking aircraft......they just did not quite got it right! ?
The A340 is a close 2nd, to me she looks out of proportion, just not balanced.
Mind you, having said that, they may well both be aerodynamically very good and efficient, just aesthetically they're off!
Most early Russian (Soviet) designed aircraft were just plain UGLY!, in fact with some of them, I am amazed they flew at all!

Agreed, I also agree with your feeling about boring twins, I would not say that I hate them or find them ugly but really, really boring. Especially the A320. For me it is like the VW Golf or Toyota Corolla of the skies. They are no cars you would buy because of their looks but because they are reliable, cheap to operate, fuel efficient etc.......this applies to the A320 and the airline industry.

Quoting Futurecaptain (Reply 1):
The A380.

Definitely not a beauty especially if compared to the 747 (100- /-8) but a great welcome after all the twins from Airbus, Boeing and Embraer.
It will forever be a McDonnell Douglas MD 80 , Boeing MD 80 sounds so wrong

For what it's worth, I'm repelled by such designs simply because of the boredom they induce. After all, how many photos of a tube with two engines can one view before falling asleep? I much prefer examining designs that provoke some thought.

But do you know this aircraft?

The head-on view of the A380 always reminds me of the Beech 1900D which also has a high "forehead" to permit adequate passenger headroom in the cabin. The rest of the 1900D doesn't win any beauty contests either especially with all the fences, strakes and other aerodynamic protrusions from every part of the tail and rear fuselage.

I don't think the A34-200/300 look amazing due to the size of the engines in comparison to the fuselage, though I do like the aesthetics of the 500/600. There isn't anything I find really ugly though!

I agree with the posters about the A320 - family being ugly. I fact the whole Airbus - narrowbody - line is looking painfully boring and generic.

The A380 wouldn't exactly win a beauty contest either but to me it looks OK.

The ugliest widebody-twin to me is the 777.

The Airbus A31x and A32x families are very nearly the Toyotas of the airliner world. Not ugly, but nothing special either. But they are nice inside however.  Smile

The A330 though, that's a classy looking plane.  Smile The A340 is as well.  Smile

Number 1 is the ugliest:

1. A380------perhaps a stretched version will look a little better
2. SD-330/SD-360
3. A319
4. ERJ
