UA, JL Very Long Haul

Fri May 09, 2008 2:33 pm

My wife and I are going to visit her familly in Phils. in August. Segments are EWR-ORD-NRT-MNL-ILO-MNL-NRT-IAD-EWR.

What can I expect in terms of seating, IFE, etc. on UA 772 on ORD-NRT-ORD segments and JL 744 on NRT-MNL-NRT segments? Am curious about PR MNL-ILO-MNL too. Am siked to fly on these planes and segments!

EWR-ORD and IAD-EWR are no surprises to me...I know what to expect there.

Thanks.

UA 772's are acttually quite decent with IFE and decent legroom, just be glad you were'nt stuck on a 744. No AVOD or anything but IFE isn't too bad. Try to get an exit row seat, it'll make all the difference. It'd help if you have any status with them.

JL 744 on NRT-MNL-NRT segments?

This toute is opearted by a 742, not a 744. I've flown it a couple of times in J class so I am not sure how their Y service is but don't expect too much because I was disappointed even in J. Good thing it's only a 4-4.5 hour flight.

PR is actually a really good airline, if they leave on time  wink . I don't know what equipment they fly to ILO but their newer A320's are awesome. You might get lucky and they stick you on a 744 or A330 but not sure if they fly those to ILO.

Have fun in the Philippines, great country-reason I've lived there for 2 years now  biggrin . If your wife is a shpaholic, just hope your NRT connection wont be that long otherwise you'll be a broke man before you get to the PI.  biggrin

Thanks guys. Some great info. here.

Am quite disappointed in 742 instead of 744, but certainly could be worse. Thanks for the heads up about shopping in NRT..I'll be prepared and do what I can to run into such problems there  Smile

MNL-ILO is never operated by the 333/343/744, only A319/320. Actually I've never flown the new ones, but the older A320 are nothing special though.  Smile

True, you could be stuck on a BA146. Actually, the 742's aren't bad at all.

I've flown the new A320's, they're AWESOME.

Bummer, I've flown the A330 and the 747 to CEB. The 744's interior is in bad shape though.
