What To Expect On VivaAerobus?

Mon May 12, 2008 11:25 pm

Well,

I've read a couple of TR's about Viva (the only ones I could find), and have basically realized that the plane is going to rattle a lot during takeoff and landing, and it's very....cheap, to say the least. One TR said they didn't feel unsafe  Smile and one said they never felt safe  Sad . Does anybody else have any experiences on the airline? Do I really need to get to the airport 3(!) hours before my flight?

I'll be flying AUS-CUN on Saturday (5/17), returning on the 24th...

Any thoughts/input is greatly appreciated!

Cheers,
Cameron

You will get what you paid for....

Paid little....will get little mantainance on aicrafts
Paid little...will get little safety
Paid little---will get little comfort
Paid little....will not get even a cup of water
Paid little....will get tinny service
Paid little....will get little seat pitch

Have a nice trip...please give us your trip report on your return......

I'm not surprised about any of the rest, but can this really be true in this age? Would the DOT really let an airline touch US soils that it thought was unsafe?

I know very little about safety regulations in Mexico, but I wouldn't have any quarrels setting foot on an AM or MX bird. Can safety really vary from airline to airline, or is Viva held to the same strict standards regarding safety other Mexican airlines are.

Also, is it possible that a plane can be extremely raggedy on the inside, but be in tip-top shape regarding airworthiness?

I'm not meaning to sound like a baby, it's just my first time flying on any airline that isn't a major American airline or other major international carrier.

Yup, it is definitely possible.

I seriously doubt it. I honestly reckon Vivaaerobus is perfectly safe...

This airline hasn't had any incidents or accidents, and already getting a safety bashing. Viva is as safe or safer than Northwest's DC9s.

I was meant to fly VIV (MTY-CJS) but ended up on a Global Air 732 that was operating on behalf of VIV. Other than a 1+ hour delay, it was fine.

What a stupid comment.

Yes, statistically speaking. And those 9's have flown about a billion hours compared to ???? for Viva? Not bashing Viva, but this isn't apples and oranges here, this is apples and chicken gizzards.....

Those Viva 737s have flown a lot of hours, not a "billion" like NW's DC9s, but many none theless. At least enough to guarrente safety.

Not the most intelligent comment I have read in these forums by far.......so I guess the same would apply to Southwest, JetBlue, Virgin America, Airtran etc. etc.

Quoting Longhornmaniac (Reply 2):
I know very little about safety regulations in Mexico

Don't worry, they're basically copy/paste from the US-DOT......why invent something new when your neighbours have already come up with a very detailed and comprehensive set of safety guidelines and regulations.

If it will fly to/from the US, then the equipment used must meet DOT requirements.....simple as that.

Good to hear, all. I was surprised when I read that first comment, so I'm glad the rest of y'all were around to alleviate any and all concerns I had.

Thanks!
