Best Viewing Spot At PHX

Mon Jun 02, 2008 1:03 am

June 6-11 i will be at the phoenician in scottsdale with my family and on the 7th i'm going to the airport to pick up a friend and was thinking about going a little early and watching some planes but i don't know the area very well. So where is the best place to sit and watch planes?

T3 or T4 garage... Any level, but I believe 6-9 are the best for viewing. In the T3 garage you can get great views of DL/NW/FL etc, and of course US and WN traffic going over the bridge. At the T4 garage, you can see plenty of WN and US ramp action and good views of landings on 26.

If the traffic is going the other way, using 8 to land and 7L to takeoff, then T3 is preferable. Have fun, I haven't been around since January! PHX is always one of my favorite airports, as a passenger, spotter, photographer and former US employee!  Smile

NICE PLACE!!!!

As San747 said T3 or T4 is the best, depends on which runway they are on. I would go to both, that way you can also get some cool pictures of the planes that are at the gates. BTW around 4-5 is when the BA 747 arrives, last I checked it was 440 but that could have changed.

You could always go up on A hill in Tempe. Aircraft fly right over head on approach. Not as close as the terminal garages but still a neat spot up there.

i'm going to try and borrow my friend's DSLR to take some better pictures, right now i just use my casio EX-750 point and shoot and it's not the best.

There is a parking lot just across the street from the boundary fence on the north side, I forgot how to get there though, it's been almost 6 years since I was last there.

Remember when shooting in PHX that the sun is very intense, and that shadows are hard and dark. Best to shoot from the south of the subject, either from the parking garage for runway 26, or from area 1 below for the south complex.

Two of my favorite places:

1) North tip of 40th street south of the "river"...

2) East Air Lane, north of runway 26...
