I find this a lot with SWA and US: Even though SWA claims to be cheap, US Aurways always comes up cheaper.Take my upcomgin trip to MCO: on SWA, it was 200 rt, but with US, its was only 120 rt. That's why I fly US a lot, although, I hope I'll be able to fly SWA soon.
I have mentioned this a few times before on other threads. There are occasions when a legacy/network carrier will post a lower fare than its LCC rival; HOWEVER, if one finds out that they have to change their flight reservation, which carrier will charge you a $100 Change fee ON
whatever fare difference?
In light of many network carriers (not just US) recently nickel & diming customers ($25 for a second checked-bag ($15 for first checked bag on AA
), more money for certain Coach-class seats, no complimentary snacks); how quickly will that $120 r/t fare you got move closer to $200?
I'm not necessarily saying that one might still come out with a cheaper OVERALL deal than a WN
itinerary (all of my 4 PHL
r/t itineraries over the years, I got better deals w/CO, DL
and US than w/WN when I booked); but the playing field has recently tilted more in WN
's favor than previously IMHO.

Can anybody find a self-acclaimed LCC that charges as much???
Absolutely. US Airways claims to be a low-cost carrier (and even chose the stock symbol "LCC"). And yet a round-trip between CLT and DCA -- a distance of 331 miles -- will cost $1314 before taxes for a departure tomorrow and a return Saturday.
Similar still holds true with many fares out of PHL
that have NO true-LCC (FL, F9

Where are the rules written that a Low COST carrier has to be a Low Fares Carrier?. LCC only stands for the low cost bit.
While that pure definition is true; shortly after the HP
-US merger, there were banners all over PHL
's Terminal B-C stating that US Airways is the World's Largest Low Fare
Airline (not a typo). So it's not just the customer that mixes up LCC with LFC (low fare carrier).
In the spirit of the thread, US probably sells the most overpriced LCC tickets (in the States) for the reasons stated above.
