Question About JL 5/6

Wed Jul 02, 2008 2:36 pm

I am gonna be traveling to Japan on friday and was checking on seatguru.com for the seats. I am traveling in economy and noticed out of 5 configurations for the 747-400 that JAL have, 3 have economy seats on the upper deck. The other two configurations have business on the upper deck. Does anybody know which configuration is used on JAL flights 5 and 6 (JFK-NRT, NRT-JFK)? Also, if it does have economy on the upper deck, what is the chance of sitting up there, or is it usually reserved for frequent flyers?

Having previously worked with JAL, I don't believe that the upper deck eco seats are reserved for elites or anything.
As far as what they fly to JFK, I don't know. But it wouldn't surprise me if they had a larger number of business seats on a route like NRT to JFK.

By the way, JAL is a great airline. I don't know about inflight service, but those 747-400s are IMMACULATE. I know- I helped keep them that way.

I cannot comment about economy, but on my flight, the upper deck was all J. And I had upperdeck exit row seats on all 4 JL 744 sectors I flew in May. Loved it!

Yes, the aircraft is immaculate, the service very polite and dignified, and no difference between Nipponjin and Gaijin service.
