Is There A Sweet Spot Of Time To Buy Tickets?

Wed Jul 09, 2008 1:59 am

I know that the closer you get to the flights dates the price generally goes up, unless of course, the airline has a special to fill the plane.

Is there a point in time where the ticket price is usually the lowest? Like say 6 months out?

I've only noticed good fares 6 months out when you are buying in spring for the following autumn, or buying in autumn for spring.

They're like stocks. Watch your date and flights everyday. When they go down, buy.
Sometimes there are last minute deals, sometimes the deals are out 30-45-60 days.
Thats when the carriers are looking for instant cash for any given reason.
Right now, I am watching October fares to SEA for one particular weekend.
