Most airlines will not refund cheap tickets. If they do, the charge is quite large.

You will have to check the Terms and Conditions. Sometimes is best just to forfit the fare.

Once you've booked an FR ticket, that's it, no refunds. You can officially "cancel" the ticket by phoning them, but the ticket cost is non-refundable and there is an "admin charge" to reclaim the taxes paid, which is more or less equal to the taxes themselves, meaning there is no point in doing even that.

Can I apply for a refund for my unused flight?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

All Ryanair fares are fully changeable flight/dates/times/routes and names (up to 4 hours prior to original flight departure) however fares, fees or charges are non-refundable. Government taxes are the only portion of taxes, fees and charges which are refundable. Government tax refunds are subject to an administration fee of just £15, which is half BA's admin fee of £30 and significantly lower than BMI's £25 or Easyjet's £17.50. If the refund amount due to the customer is less than the applicable refund administration charge then no refund will be made. Government tax refund requests must be made within one month from the booked travel date.

Sometimes you can reschedule the tickets up to a point <330 days in the future. Maybe you can do this a reschedule the visit? It will also cost $$, but I have no idea how much (or if it is even possible) at FR.
