US-Western Europe Business Travellers

Sat Jul 26, 2008 12:49 pm

Hello everyone:

I need your expert opinions on this forum. Working with the Business Travel Research Centre (Department of Air Transport) at Cranfield University, we decided to evaluate business models of the topic airlines. I am quite sure most of you will have your opinions on this issue as I would gladly appreciate your thoughts.

I have done some extensive research on the subject matter, using academic and analytical tools. In a nut shell, we are evaluating the long term sustainability of business class only airlines given their historic and recent demise. I have used surveys from IATA, AMEX, and Barclaycard (UK) to collect some information and have also interviewed corporte travel managers of a few fortune 100 companies to get opinions.

What I want to do is try to get some opinions from you guys, the experts and transatlantic business travellers in general. I need to know what your thoughts are on why they do not seem to work or what your experiences of such were. Now, I know some of you would not have any opinions at all but is does not matter. As such, I have started this thread to get some responses from those willing to share them. I need business travellers between Europe and the United states to also complete the survey on the travel polls and preferences forum. Below is the link to the survey on this website. You can also search it under transatlantic business traveller survey on the engine search. Thanks guys...

AND IF ANYONE KNOWS HOW I CAN CONTACT FORMER CEO OF NOW DEFUNCT MGM GRAND AIR, PLEASE LET ME KNOW...There was someone on this forum who is acquainted to him but does not post anymore.

I would say a major issue why business traveller choose a particular airline is that they travel dep. or agency have some cooperate agreements including good deals with mainline airlines since several years.

The consequence is a loyality to one/two airlines, most probably in the same alliance, also because of mileage earning for instants. To get a higher status with a mileage programme which has a lot of benefits for business people you have to fly the same airline otherwise it is hard get this status. Most (if not all) of the business-only airlines have no such a loyality programme and operate only one or two routes.
