Which Is The Best U.K Low Cost Carrier?

Fri Aug 01, 2008 12:06 pm

Been reading a few reviews on carsurvey.org where people post their opinions on flights they have taken.

Just out of interest, I compared FR, U2 and BE and FR definately had a lot more grumbles than the rest (and yes, I know it's not a U.K carrier but you know what I mean!).

From your own personal experiences, do you have a preferred LCC?

You have to take review sites with a pinch of salt. I moderate the flights sections of a holiday website and you only tend to get people posting reviews if they loved the flight or hotel, or hated it. Reviews are useful to get a feel, but considering FR is the larger airline of the ones you mention, they are bound to get more posts.I'm not saying disregard the posts, just bear in mind the motivation behind them as your judgement may be skewed. I'd be happy to fly with any of the ones you mention, it's more of a question of price and schedule.

Which is the best U.K. low cost carrier...?

British Airways, I often find these days.

Competetive prices and many of the basics included which others now call extra cost options.  thumbsup
So I drive a 4x4. So what?! Tax the a$$ off me for it...oh, you already have... :-(

It is certainly not FR. They are from the Irish Republic not the UK.

Even the BBC agrees with that based on the One Show earlier in the week (a soft news show with a consumer interest slot)

Heard on the radio today they are currently reporting losses of 80% odd. Times are tight out for everyone, especially airlines.

Out of the UK LCC's I'd chose Air Southwest. After them I'd put the UK's LCC's in this order;

EasyJet
FlyBe
Jet2
Monarch
XL Airways
BMIBaby
FlyGlobespan
ThomsonFly

That's based on my experiences with all of them; the price of the flight; on time performance; friendliness of the ground and cabin crew and overall seat comfort.

Nope, sorry - I don't. If we're allowing foreign LCCs into the equation just because they operate in the UK, then I'm saying Air Berlin.

I'd suggest there's a big difference between an 80% loss and an 80% drop in profits  Wink.

Well No. 1 for me is EasyJet

Had dozens of flights on dozens of routes with them and rarely am i disappointed.

Monarch i use twice a year and I like their service but just cant get a 'cheap/low cost' flight no matter how hard i try.

As it happens i take my first flight on BMi Baby this month from EMA to AGP.
I am looking forward to it even though they use ageing 733's.

Ryanair ive used lots too and pretty much a different argument here, the service has always seemed below usual standards, overall the flights i get on the website are not necessarily expensive but always far dearer than the price that is shown first when they've stuck their add-ons to the bill. I,m expecting before long that they will want to charge you for each breath you take. Therefore they will not get a rating from me.

ZB!!!!!

Monarch i find is by far the best! They combine great service with low prices. (Most of the flights ive been on have overhead IFE screens even if the flight is only 2 hours long) and they always have the option to buy a hot meal which, although is not the best food in the world - its nice to have the option!

plus - some of their flights are 'CelebAir' flights. You get celebrities as your crew for the ITV2 TV programme!
