Spirit New Colors:

Thu Aug 14, 2008 5:44 am

I was just browsing through some photos randomly and noticed Spirit Airlines' new colors, and I must say, they look like a huge downgrade. Their old livery gave me the impression of a major respectable airline. Their new colors look kidnof silly and amateurish. I just don't get it... thoughts?

Absolutely hideous IMHO.

I never really liked the previous one (a little too busy) but this new one just looks insanely cheap.

I guess corporate image is all about manipulating customer expectations. The old livery was too first class. I think the new livery appropriately lowered the bar a bit for Spirit by rightfully projecting a very discountish, cheap image for an airline that's always aspired to be the Target of the air.

For anybody who was in Los Angeles in the 80s, am I wrong or is the livery a stylish version of the Standard Shoes S logo.

They went out of business in the early 90s.

It looks much more European. Or Asian. Or South African. American carriers tend to be very dull in their liveries with heavy emphasis on red-white-and-blue.

Well, I was one of those people who cheered when Spirit introduced their more business-like livery. However, looking at it now, it is just too rigid for an LCC.

The new livery, while not a personal favorite by any means, seems to fit their mold somewhat better. Also, it seems to have more of a south of the border feel, if that's the appropriate phrase. They would seem to fit in to the Latin American LCC aviation scene much better with the new livery versus the old, at least IMHO.

In the end, though, is there really any consensus on these issues? I mean, not everybody can have Sun Country's image  Smile. Yes, I like their current livery a lot.

True, but the liveries you speak of don't remind me of a clown. This just boarders on unprofessional and absurd, especially when you find out that each color has a meaning(!):

The company's energetic new colors reinforce Spirit's four brand principles:

* Caliente Red - Low Fares
* Palm Tree Green - On-time and Reliable
* Sunshine Yellow - Clean New Planes
* Ocean Blue - Friendly Staff

I think its already been mentioned what other perceptions the livery reinforces...

The liveries you use as examples get their message across, are different, but still look professional and well done. Whoever sold this idea needs to have their eyes checked.

I used to be a kindergarten teacher and i must say it looks like the gave a paint brush and a few cans of paint to a bunch of preschoolers and said "colour it as you like" and thus the current paint. I think its better than the silver/black, (too bad they didn't keep the Blue/White digital colours which were/are better than what it is now

Indeed the image they were looking to achieve, "We are an Ultra Low Cost Airline" and it shows!

Quoting Flybyguy (Reply 4):

Indeed, while the livery of old was for many a very attractive and different livery the perception was that Spirit was a business airline and not a low cost one at that.

Indeed their original livery was probably a far better option than the digital blue or gray liveries,

Target! K-mart? Any takers for the Walmart livery?

This was THE best. The silver variation is a close second. The new vomit is deep in the trash bin covered in my spew.

As mentioned the last livery was really tight and professional, how could anyone not like it? The new one does put forward a more carefree and upbeat impression than the rather dour silver and black. I wasn't a fan of it at first but it has grown on me. I think it does a much better job of conveying a "fun" impression than the last livery.

Because it looked awfully similar to an old Power Point theme...
