AA 772 Or BA 744 LHR-LAX-LHR?

Sat Oct 18, 2008 11:58 pm

The title says it all, what would you chose a AA 772 or BA 744 on LHR-LAX-LHR?? How is the service on AA (have flown with BA so I know what to expect there). PTVs on board the AA a/c, food, legroom compared to BA and so on.

All help appreciated.

AA has become so miserable that I would choose BA without any hesitation

While my last flights with both BA and AA are quite some while back, I'd opt for BA without hesitating more than a split secont.

And the fact that you'd be in a B777 on AA and a B744 on BA only makes the whole thing even more obvious (well... at least for me): BA really is the only option here.

I haven't been on AA yet, but BA offers a great product, especially Trans Atlantic. If you've never been on AA or a T7 yet, then I'd look into AA, but otherwise (personally) I'd stick with BA.

I never flew AA transatlantic, and I see you've made your decision already, going with BA. I flew BA LAX-LHR (and continuing on to MUC) and back in 2006. I don't remember if the 744's had PTVs (I think they did), but service overall was good, with decent meals with complimentary wine in economy. Hope you enjoy your flight.

Is there any doubt? Unless you're saving a ton of money it's BA all the way.

I had the pleasure (?) on their 763 to BRU/CDG from ORD and once on the ZRH to DFW route, it was sub-par for international service, remembering the QF ad's from the mid-80's when UA took over from PA, "Why would you fly a 5 hour airline on a 15 hour flight?"

Well the difference between BA and AA is that AA is only $40 cheaper

Well, will book the tickets this weekend, but I will probably stick with BA as I have flown with them many times across the Atlantic already.

If you've flown BA across the pond a bunch of times already, I'd give AA a shot. I'm sure it's not quite as good, but I've never had any problems with AA, and it'd be a new experience.

Well it would be a new experience, and I would also add a new a/c to my list, the 772.

I wouldn't need to think a second. BA. AA is a miserable comparision. If you are flying Y, even more reason -- better movies, better food, drinks free. If in J, better food, more privacy, 62A and K as upstairs windows w/direct aisle access.

Economy class-AA. Business or higher go with BA.

I can't comment on BA as I've never flown with them, but I have experienced AA's 777s. I was really pleased with the PTVs, though the variety of music selections wasn't all that great. I did however get to see two movies that I've really been eager to watch.

The food in economy was good, though not spectacular.

Stick to BA.

I've flown both carriers in international Y, AA's 777 & BA's 744, BA's better service and overall quality make it a no brainer choice.

I had the same choice SFO-LHR (Except it was UA) and I chose BA in a heartbeat. Even for a fare that was $58 more. BA in...an...instant. NEVER fly an American carrier overseas (except maybe CO) if you can take a foreign competitor, instead. US carriers have the worst on-board experience of anywhere in the Western world, and possibly of anywhere (I'm thinking some parts of Russia might be a bit worse, but service in S. America is positively delightful!)

Don't think twice, BA all the way. One of many reasons, it's a 744.
Enjoy.

It's too late now, but if you're traveling in Y you might want to consider AA because of their seating configuration, if there are a lot of open seats. As opposed to the 747's 3-4-3 seating, the 777 has 2-5-2 seating, so if you're on either of the side sections, you either have an aisle or window seat, which could help if you need to get out of your seat at some point, etc.

I haven't traveled on BA transatlantic but I have flown AA and found the seats comfortable, the service just fine, and the entertainment okay (at the time, not AVOD).

Opps, forgot about the seating. But I dont think it will be a too big of a problem if I get stuck at the window seat with two other pax sitting next to me on the 744.
