Who Has The Best Airport Lounge In The World

Thu Oct 30, 2008 6:25 am

Hi Everyone,

This is my first Forum.

I would like to know who has the Best Airport Lounge in the World:- Things to consider are the views of the Tarmac/Apron/City, Staff friendliness, Ambience, Food and Beverage Options, Business Facilites, Spa Facilities / Relaxation Area and any other points of difference etc.

I have been to the following Lounges:
EK Business Class Lounge - DXB Terminal 1 - A great oasis away from the hustle and bustle of DXB Airport, great views of diferent airliners from around the world, Extensive Food and Beverage options, very friendly staff.
EK Lounge - MEL - Awesome View over the Airfield, Fantastic Food, Great Beverage selection, comfortable seating, love the water feature.
QF/BA Business Class Lounge - SIN - Great expansive Lounge, Great bank of computers, great wine/champagne/Spirit and Beer options, friendly staff, food a little dissapointing
QF Club - BNE INTL - a great view over the hustle and bustle of the terminal, great food and beverage options
QF Club - BNE DOM - good selection of food and wine
QF Club - SYD DOM - Great Views overlooking QF maintence base and the back part of the Club overlooks International Terminal and runway
QF Club - SYD INTL - Great wine/champagne/spirit/beer options
QF Club - MEL DOM - Great Views of the Airfield
QF Chairmans Lounge - MEL DOM - Friendly and Attentive staff, extensive food and beverage options and great views of the airfield
The Lounge - MEL - Great since it has become The Lounge from The Blue Room, WI-FI Access Complimentary, limited food options and a good selection of wine and beer
Tabua Club - NAN - Basic of Lounges, a few sandwiches and drinks on offer

I am very interested to hear from our friends in the US who are members of the Red Carpet Club who frequent LAX, SFO AND LGA/EWR/JFK and have experienced The Westin Touch point of difference and experienced renewal.

For a business class lounge I have to agree (not that I have been to more than 12).... it has everything - massages, treatments, wet areas, views, a bar, a top restaurant (greeeeeeeeat food), friendly staff, games room, Library, the list goes on and on... hehe

When it comes to the best lounges, you can't leave out Cathay Pacific and their lounges - The Wing and The Pier - at HKG.

For me (and the one I use most):

CX The Wing @ HKG. Fab food, fab service, great showers (though that water feature at the end of the Cabanas has been out of action for at least six months. One downer: the free WiFi: it seems there are three providers competing for your computer's attention. At least on my PC, it seems to switch between them, causing drop-outs etc.

Honourable Mention:
-QF First Class Lounge at MEL: great set-up, though those auxiliary air conditioners they were using in March this year were hideous, noisy and did nothing to reduce the sweat factor. The Emirates Lounge is nearby and must suffer the same problem, esp on a hot Melbourne summer afternoon.

-JAL Sakura First Lounge @ NRT: Great curry and Japanese Beer on Tap! WiFi fast. Limited english-language reading material.

-CX Lounge in FRA: Used it on arrivals and departure. Though after all these years, no distinction between First Class section and Business Class section. Other than the partition, that is.

Not bad:
-Various LH Senator Lounges, though banning smoking will help.
-QF Domestic Qantas Club lounges. Bit zoo-like, and same food for years.
Haven't been to the new business lounges yet.
-Aeroflot Lounge @ SVO: no views, one PC, small, busy, coffee, no food. Although they do fabulous cured salmon and cured sturgeon open sandwiches.

Shockers:
-what passes for a Lounge in Chinese Domestic airports. Mostly consisting of overstuffed chairs, instant noodles and no english-language readin material. And some localsyelling into their mobile.

LHR has 2 good ones - the BA CCR in T5 and the VS Clubhouse in T3 is a pretty cool place to get stuck if you are delayed...

Without a doubt the first class lounge in T5 with BA. It's like in a 4-5 star restaurant and club.
