Longest 330/340 Flights Ever

Mon Nov 03, 2008 2:23 pm

Hi A.netters

can anyone tell me what are the longest flights ever operated by 330 and 340? Not only regular flights, but also delivery flights or special charter operations?

Thanks for the info

That was already discussed several times :

Longest flight for an A330-200 :

AF272/AF279 CDG-NRT-CDG = 9734 km / 5256 nm / 6048 mi

I think the longest flight for an A330-300 is KE flight ICN-PRG : 8258km / 5131 mi

Off the top of my head....

332 - QF TLS-MEL
333 - CX HKG-AKL
343 - CX HKG-YYZ
346 - CX HKG-JFK

But we will never know what the VIP A340s really get up to, they would be capable of around 10,000 nm.

longest special flight by an A340 that I have heard of was CDG-AKL nonstop followed by AKL-CDG nonstop back in 1993 by a -200 as a demonstration flight - I would be surprised of anything done by an A340 since that has eclipsed that

I think CX used to op the longest A346 flight which was HKG - JFK, and they have a flight to SYD which is very long for an A333 - longest scheduled A333 flight I heard.

Longest A343 flight would probably be FRA-SCL on LanChile, or maybe even LHR-NRT on VS. AC used to do a weight restricted A343 run to HKG from YVR which was a very long flight.

Iberia operates both the A340-300 and the A340-600 on their longest commercial flight, routed MAD-SCL-MAD. The flight is around 14 hours.

Another long flight for the A340-600 is PVG-JFK-PVG on MU. Flight time is around 15 hours.

With a stop in MAD.

Yep ! forgot this one.

It was actually LBG-AKL, on June 17 1993, during the Paris Air Show.
The A340-200 "World Ranger" F-WWBA covered the distance (18541 km / 11521 mi) in 21h31mn.

Malaysia Airlines operated the A330-300 KUL-DXB-IST-MAD for some time - whilst not the longest non-stop - this was certainly MH's longest route for this aircraft type.

342: AR EZE-AKL
343: SA JNB-HKG

Apart from SQ's SIN-EWR-SIN & SIN-LAX-SIN current non-stop commercial flights (A345); SA stumps the rest of the A340 operators with their current non-stop flights (A343 & A346) between IAD-JNB. IAD-JNB = 13091km = 8134mi = 7068nm.

Please correct me if I'm wrong...  duck

Longest nonstop A330 flight was probably the Toulouse-Melbourne flight (16901 km says FAI) that set the record for distance in the 200-250 tonne class in 2002.

You're overlooking QF AKL-LAX where the 332 has been used in the past. That's 5652 nm, longer than all the other scheduled 332 routes mentioned so far.

Does MAN-MAN count? From this website: Airbus's largest and latest airliner, the A340-600, took off from Manchester Airport shortly after noon on Wednesday, November 14, for a 15-hour non-stop proving flight. Departing from Manchester's second runway the aircraft headed East, crossing over Denmark and Sweden to Helsinki in Finland, here it turned North crossing the Arctic Circle to Tromso, at the top of Norway; the aircraft then followed the Norwegian coastline down for a short distance before setting course over the North Atlantic as far as Iceland, where a further course change saw the A340-600 heading South to Ireland then on to Portugal as far as Cadiz before turning East again over Spain to Ibiza, then it was back North again, flying over Paris and London on its way back to Manchester where it touched down in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Unfortunately no distance quoted!
