Best UA Plane For International Y?

Wed Nov 12, 2008 4:37 am

What would you say is the best United Airlines plane to fly coach internationally? My personal reasoning would be the 767 because of the 2-3-2 seating configuration and the PTVs, but I know that most 777s are newer and also have PTV, and the 747s--well, I guess they have a certain prestige, even with the 3-4-3 seating and the lack of PTVs. If there is a choice as to the aircraft you would fly on internationally on UA, what would be your pick? Are the coach seats any different on those planes (i.e. 747 vs. 767 vs. 777 vs. domestic fleet with new-style seats [I guess not 737s])?

Well assuming that you had a choice of all three aircraft on the same route my preference would be as follows:-

777
767
747

Thats simply based on the fact that the first two have PTV's and I love the 777.
the new config 747 have overhead screed thoughtoput the Y cabin which make the ride a bit more pleasant.

I'd go with the 763 because it's narrower (no one is more than 1 seat from the aisle, and the best chance of getting a window)... I haven't been on an international 763 in ages, but some of the domestic 763s do have pretty tired interiors. I'd choose the 763 anyway.

767 better air but any seat except very middle one

777 more spacious but any seats except very three middle ones

747
The best coach seat is 61B or 61J.
That is in the very back and only two seats next to the window.

Row 46 and Row 35 are exit rows with lots of leg room.

777 or 767 - both have the 2 seat side, so it's not too bad.

747 I'd avoid at all costs in Y.

Thanks for the responses!

Not to bring it off topic, but another UA question related to the international 763s: Are there any differences in the F and J seats (old configuration)? That is, for the planes that have not recently been refurbished with the new F and J seats, from looking at photos the old seats look pretty similar. Any differences in terms of space, comfort, etc.? (SeatGuru doesn't say much about it.)

Thanks!  Smile

Even thought I was seated in Y, the FA called me up to F before going to the cockpit. The Fist and Business classes looked very new. I may be worng, but first was like 1-2-1, business was something similar too. all i know is that the seats looked new Big grin
