Hey A Netters. I am flying from
EWR to
LHR on
VS a 346 outbound and 744 inbound. I was planning on upgrading to premimum economy on one of the segments. I was leaning toward the 744 upgrade.
I am open to suggestions.
Thanks,
Mark in MKE

I'd upgrade on the night flight to
LHR. Then you have a good night sleep and land relaxed in
LHR.

Wilco I am taking the
AM departure from
EWR. I arrive in the evening and planning on a good night sleep.
I leave
MKE the day before on
YX and plan a night at the Mariott in
EWR.
Thanks for the info though.

That changes a lot then
Then I'd personally go on the 744 for the premium economy. Sitting in this lovely airplane and enjoying it even more than in the normal economy. It is for sure a great experience - in my opinion.

What are your flight numbers?
I think it depends on the thinking behind your upgrade...
Do you want to upgrade to be comfortable, or do you want to upgrade to be in a better position to sleep?
Having flown
VS regularly in both classes, I would be inclined to upgrade on the day flight and enjoy the 'awake' benefits of Premium Economy, then select seat 6xA or 6xK right at the back and get some sleep there, which isn't as hard as one might think.

I agree with you Wilco. I was leaning on going that way. Especially with seat guru showing the potential of an upper deck premium on select versions of the
VS 744.

Even better. Sitting on the upper deck is for sure a different experience. On
LH the F class is on the upper deck, so I've never been up there. I'd go for that, no doubt.

Now does anyone have any ideas on how to try and snag an upgrade on the outbound flight.
I do have a group of 25 people traveling on the same day as me from
ORD I thought of bringing that to their attention at check in at
EWR. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I've had that pleasure on
LH (in F) and
SW (in C) - and I'd say the upper deck is just about the only place where a ride on a B747 is truly enjoyable. If you've got a chance to get up there, go for it.

SAA had Y in the upper deck on their 744s and it was most enjoyable. More pitch than main deck too.
