Schemes That Bother Me.

Tue Dec 02, 2008 12:28 pm

Why did UA paint their blue up to the window only on their 744's?
Why is the Japanese flag located either on the left or on top of the L1 door?
What's the point in removing the English title on NH? ANA is not as easy as PIA.
TN needs to do something with that red flag under the blue. What do they want to emphasize?
Why didn't OS paint their engine and belly with the same kind of blue? Is there a reason?
I'm not really sure if there's a legitimate answer to any of these.
Can anyone please help me?

Why are TG's engines white? It would look much better in purple!

Because it looks better the way it is now  duck . But beauty is in the eye of the beholder, I guess  Smile.

On topic, I think there is no real answer to your question. The PR departements of/PR agencies hired by the respective airlines probably made some surveys, and finally designed the livery after what they think would strengthen and advertise the brand the most.

I think this is an interesting thread. If I may indulge:

Why don't Quantas paint their 743 engines white?

Why did United do such a crummy job of removing old paint before applying new scheme?

Why is CO's paint scheme so timeless? It's as fresh as the day it was introduced!!??? Haha.

Why won't AF completely redo their loser livery?
Why did FL put magenta and blue stripes next to each other? The way they clash is hideous.

I can probably add more complaints as I think of them.  Wink

Why when looking from the right of a new NWA livery, the logo's triangle is in the Northeast direction?

Why did NW change their paint scheme while in bankruptcy? NW could've saved money just keeping the old livery until out of bankruptcy.

Why do most airlines have a colorful tail but a white or silver fuselage. If you're changing the livery do something with the fuselage!

I remember spotting at MSP and watching an AA MD-80 land. The reg. was upside down. It isn't part of the livery but how did the reg. get upside down?
It ain't no normal MD80 its a Super 80!

I once read a comment on their scheme that the problem with it is that it's too "blandly inoffensive."

That just about sums it up. Honestly, if they painted the underbelly of the plane the same color of the tail, that would make it look much better.

Actually, I liked the meatball.

Actually, it does seem like it would look nice, but of course, there are those that would disagree. I agree with the meatball scheme, but I think there was too much negative connotation associated with it and Frank Lorenzo. I am sure besides re-branding and freshening their image after the bankruptcy, the new scheme helped employee morale, which was one of Bethune's goals.

Exactly!! It just seems like they took off the "N" from the previous scheme.

They do this because there would be less paint to remove when they "sell" their aircraft to another airline. It saves time and money.

One thing that kind of bugs me is how some airlines (such as LH) don't do anything with their winglets on their aircraft such as the B744 or A330/340s. Great spot for the companies name or logo such as how KL has done it on their aircraft.

Why aren't there more 'natural' silver schemes like AA? I really like it - as it's so different .... very cool, very metal  Smile

Shoot me if you wish but I quite like it. I thought the old one was horribly bland and boring. At least the new one shows they have some stones. It's out there interesting and certainly unmistakable, but that's just my opinion.

VS and JQ are silver, but is AA using special paint? I always thought that such "shine" is only possible on Boeing aircrafts because the body is mainly metal. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

The AA scheme is bare metal, not painted aircraft, and it´s very different from the silver paint used on VS, JQ, SU...

I used to love the old bare aluminum livery of USAir.

American is pretty much the only one left doing that.

It's soooooooo cool- and probably saves them a LOAD in weight and also in cost of paint! Anyone know how much it would cost to paint a UA plane vs AA? Is it substantial or?

Turkish airline Pegasus (H9) have a livery that irritates me every time I see it, just because it really does look like a five-year-old designed it. To me it looks just so seriously amateur and shabby.

Why did this ever happen?
This has to be the worst thing anyone could do to an aircraft besides crashing it.

Yes, except for that disgusting cheese-coloured tail and some titles that look as though they nipped out to the local stationery shop, bought the cheapest stencils they could find and ordered the youth on work experience to go and paint them on the plane. Do you think it looks good overall?

I'm surprised nobody's mentioned Spirit's new livery based on what else I've read about it here. It looks like something a two-year old had drawn. The old one was a lot more professional-looking.
