All international flights into YVR
(and any other Canadian airports for that matter) have to clear customs and immigration before connecting onto another flight, and as pointed out in the above post, this includes picking up your luggage as well as the YVR
portion of AC002 being a domestic flight. In other words, your checked luggage will not be checked through to YYZ
, only to YVR
Once you get off the aircraft in YVR
, just follow the signs to immigration/baggage control. Your first stop will be at passport control, so make sure you have your passport ready as well as the immigration card given to you to fill out on your NRT
flight. Depending on the time of day, it can be fairly busy.
After you get your passport and immigration card back, you'll proceed to pick-up your luggage. Once you've picked up your luggage, follow the signs to the exit where you will give your immigration card to another customs official. After that, you'll go through a little hall way where you will see some check-in desks for AC
. You can check-in/drop off your bags for your remaining flight here. Once you've checked-in, you exit the arrivals hall and depending on how much time you have, enjoy the airport. Just make sure you leave plently of time to get through security again on your way to the gate. Also, IIRC, the flight will be departing from the domestic terminal which is connected to the international terminal, so just follow the signs.
