Compensation For Delayed Baggage On Liat?

Mon Dec 29, 2008 4:26 am

Hi,

Last week I traveled with my family on LIAT from SJU-SVD (St. Vincent, the Grenadines). With six people traveling, we checked seven bags (and were charged extra for the seventh bag). Only four of the seven bags made the trip, and we noted this with the baggage office in St. Vincent. Three of the remaining bags were returned 36 hours later, and one wasn't returned until five days later(!) I've looked over the LIAT website and can't find much information regarding compensation for the delayed baggage. My question is, can I/should I pursue filing for some compensation for the bags being delayed? What compensation, if any, am I entitled to/could I receive? I'm just wondering if it's worth it for me to spend the time pursuing this knowing that there is potential for my family to receive some sort of compensation.

Thank you for your help!

I'm really sorry about bumping this to the top but I would appreciate some help, particularly if there is a time constraint (i.e. I can only pursue compensation if I begin within "x" days). Thanks so much!

This may help:

[quote] http://www.liatairline.com/policies.html#complaints: In order to assist us in ensuring that your complaint is treated accordingly we request that all complaints relating to the carriage by air (other than baggage claims) be made in writing as soon as possible, after arrival of the flight in connection with which you would like to complain, but not later than within 2 months from discovering the circumstances giving rise to the complaint. LIAT will assess the complaint according to the General Conditions of Carriage effective on the day of the Contract. [quote/]

Now, This may be alittle bit more useful. this is a link to the contact numbers for baggage to respective countries: http://www.liatairline.com/contact.html

Good Luck!

#1 You won´t get anything for your excess bag as it stats that it will only be on standby ( space available).

As for the others I would say yes you can claim some compensation. You should contact them probably best via E-Mail.
